Just a casual reminder that Kneecap's Mo Chara has been charged with an offence, and referred to Crown Court, whilst Bob Vylan are the subjects of an active police investigation. Please be wary of contempt of court legislation in both cases.

I am not entirely surprised to see that most of the coverage and outrage for both acts comes from outlets which are allegedly bastions of free speech, for the marginalised right.

In all seriousness though I wonder how many acts weren't planning on saying anything and just doing their set without comment until the completely avoidable controversy blew up.

For example I saw BCNR earlier this month at Primavera and they weren't decked out in flags then

It remains to be seen what effect it will have, as so far any pro-Palestinian message they wanted to convey has been completely lost in the noise.

I'm not so sure, although this was part of my initial reaction; it didn't achieve anything that a simpler, less controversial "Free Palestine" might have. But then, they're a punk band.

Admittedly, I don't pursue any distinctly right-wing or Zionist news services, but I do have a fair blend of stuff in my algorithm, from Novara Media to Nick Ferrari on LBC, and the prevailing response in the comments seems to be an unwillingness to feel offended on behalf of an army who are said to be killing innocent women and children as we speak. I don’t think I can recall anything in the news cycle in memory in which our media institutions and governments seem so far removed from the general public consensus, and that's across the political spectrum.

I'm also typically a defender of the BBC, who are pulled and tested in every direction these days. But their decision to immediately label this "antisemitic", therefore conflating the actions of one military with an international diaspora, feels extremely wrong and naive. I have a few Jewish friends who are no fans of Israel's conduct at all, and they are incensed by this more than anything said on stage. Similarly, Grandson, the singer that Bob Vylan were due to open for on their now-cancelled US tour, is himself Jewish, and just released a statement claiming that "the Israeli government has done more to exacerbate anti-semitism in the past two years than any artist advocating for Palestinian freedom."

The centre will struggle to hold on this one.

Just caught up on a couple of things I didn't catch live.

Pulp were immense, seeing that has filled me full of regret for not catching the recent tour while sticking to my current 'not the o2 or other cavernous arena' policy.

Rod Stewart gets a participation trophy. I've never known anyone else manage to sing flat and sharp at the same time, so in some ways impressive?

Plenty more to go...

God that article is typically fence-sitting.

"Must hear both sides" has allowed so many things that should've stayed in small crackpot groups the light of day and legitimacy towards their wingnutty ideals.

If Jewish people feel a need to hide their identities because of what their Zionist led country's actions then they need to speak out about it or admit they support it. Most people wouldn't care about someone being Jewish overall, it's supporting a genocide that's the general concern.
