Hex [2024 Refurb]: General Discussion

After re-riding Hex today for the first time in a while, I can’t help but wonder why they didn’t spend a little bit extra to install OLED TV’s in the Octagon. The current ones look so out of place when the lights go out as they are backlit and it really ruins the immersion of the power going out.

Or, just install TVs with controllable backlights and program the system to turn them off at the right time.

Very easy to do with say Brightsign players.

I think for Hex some of the changes they did were great and others not keen on. Miss the old TV screens.

I thought the CRTs got reinstated after the 2016 refurb because the flatscreen LEDs ruined the storm blackout in the Octagon room?
yes they did after they realised it didn’t work. They ended up swapping the new TVs into the queue line and the old TVs got put back in the octagon.

I imagine those involved I the retheme didn’t know/care and once new ones installed no one bothered to go back.

I think it's worse than ever with the new lighting. Why have that holding room after the queue completely pointless. They could play that audio on a loop as you were passing. Used to go straight through during COVID.

What, the first narration room? It's always been the start of the ride, now has a wall to keep it better ambience.
I wouldn't be surprised if the wall & doors were put in place to make it more of an official start to the experience which would signal to people to get off their phones and pay attention to the pre-preshow. When it was the turnstiles, I noticed over time that more and more people ignored it by staying glued to their phones and only put them away when moving into the cinema room.

That room has always been there. It’s just better separated from the internal queue line now. Yeah, during Covid you walked through but before that you didn’t.

It’s classed as a pre show.

I do wonder if at this point if the snaking aspect of the queue should be removed in the armoury, bar some sort of funnel towards the end and the edges. Keeping the door closed and allowing a more “free roam” experience to the start. Making it more of a pre-pre-pre show space.

Opening it up, and making it darker could make it feel a little more atmospheric.
