And if it happening the media will pick the biggest named park and say "fanatical fans of *park name* cause mans death.

This will drag a theme park without any link to the incident though the press and the negative public reaction to that park.
Great way to kill your favourite theme park.

Towers themselves have allegedly issued a statement stating that no on ride footage is permitted whatsoever. They really need to be clearer with their messages for sure.

Yep, this is the statement they put out:
I just hope that they will now update the outdated ride signage to make this more clear, and make sure all the ride hosts and operators are also clear that they need to enforce this.

They definitely need to update all signage and give proper training to all staff members in the event that a guest is seen with recording equipment on any ride, not just the coasters. They really need to be consistent in the way that rules are treated across the park because currently it seems like there is very little communication between departments at the park.

So in reality nothing has changed, the rules have always been no filming on rides full stop.

Brings into question the claim by TPW that management said it was fine to film. But again the clear response from Towers means there is no confusion, it’s simply not allowed at all.

I think the problem that led to this situation is that the sign at the ride has always at the very least implied that on-ride filming was permitted, and staff also telling guests that they could do it further made it appear as though it was allowed.

While the official rules maybe always were that no on-ride filming or photography was allowed, in reality on park, the rule that was communicated to guests was that it was allowed, so I agree with what @TheAverageNerd has said, very poor communication between departments has contributed to this situation arising.

I’ve never interpreted that sign as meaning I could film on the ride. To me it simply meant I was taking them on ride at my own risk in case they got wet (damaged) along with my bag, coat and anything else

But yes either way the sign needs updating

After reading this thread it seems the discussion has just gone round and around and around with people saying the same things over and over again.

    That being said,

I just think Twitter/Facebook people made this a bigger deal than it needs to be and Towers should reset, come out with their stance (which I think has been done now) and that be the end of it.

I think another contributing factor is TPWW's popularity. The more you get popular, the more people you have out to get you and I think this seems to be just a case of that. As to why people cant get along, well that's just Human Nature.

I think people are taking this far too seriously, but.... someone mentioned this a few pages back (can't remember who), and I agree with them, that it's easier for Towers to state that there is a complete ban on using cameras on all rides and attractions, as opposed to stating that there is a ban on certain rides and listing which rides cameras are/aren't allowed on.

The general public are idiots, if you go the way of creating lists of rides you can/cannot use cameras on, guests aren't going to spend time trawling through lists, picking out and attempting to remember which ride(s) they're going to start vlogging from, they will just take their camera on everything and chance it. "Was Oblivion on the list of rides not allowed?" "No that was Nemesis" "No I think it was Oblivion" "Lets just film on there anyway, they'll tell us off if it's wrong".

It's easier for Towers to state that filming is prohibited on all rides to prevent that happening. Obviously dropping your phone on In the Night Garden isn't going to catastrophe like dropping your phone mid-launch on Rita would, so there's a degree of common sense here, although Towers aren't going to say this as it causes the idiots to film on everything and cause safety issues. I would be very surprised if Towers operated a zero tolerance policy on the matter.

I must say I've had some giggles reading this topic, Shawn may as well have pushed someone out of the boat (in fact he may not have got as much of a reaction).

11 pages of discussion about a selfie on the Rapids. I bet Peter Jackson is trying to secure the rights to the trilogy as we speak

This is like the Trump 'grab em by the p*ssy' tape that came out shortly before the 2016 presidential election. Some would say it's slightly less scandalous but I am not one of those people.

It'll be interesting to see if Shawn steps down or clings to his position as [squints at notes] man who took a selfie once

Can't help but think people are taking far too seriously the taking of things far too seriously. There seem to be polarised points of view over everything.

Wasn't the discussion here less about individual people & picking 'sides', and more about the debate over on ride filming that Shawn opened up?

Nope, on twitter, it does include bad language though. No idea what it was for but it's unfortunate timing with the press event.
Deleted link as I'm not sure what mods will approve of here in hindsight
