Here we go again, this week is the 2016 IAAPA Expo in Orlando. The event starts today with the trade floor open from tomorrow until Friday. There's normally some interesting new concepts that manufacturers are keen to show off or other bits of news to come out of the event.

The press schedule can be seen here, it looks like we will get more informaton on what SeaWorld Parks have planned tomorrow as well as news on a new Legoland park in New York. Interestingly S&S are set to announce a new family suspended coaster coaster tomorrow, could this be what Drayton might be getting in 2018?

As a side note, Premier Rides have announced that they have been chosen by the Wanda Group to "design and build one of the most cutting-edge attractions ever to be introduced to the theme park industry", as reported by Blooloop:
Blooloop said:
The Wanda Group selects Premier Rides to Provide a “World’s First” Attraction to the China Market

The Wanda Group has awarded Premier Rides a major contract to design and build one of the most cutting-edge attractions ever to be introduced to the theme park industry. The first-of-its-kind attraction will set a new standard for technical innovation and will reinforce Wanda’s stated goal to be the leader in China’s themed entertainment industry. The project will represent the most significant investment to date by Wanda on a single attraction and will introduce stunning new technologies that are sure to impress Wanda’s millions of fans.

Jim Seay, President of Premier Rides commented on the award stating “Premier Rides is incredibly respectful of Wanda’s commitment to build the best, world-class attractions and world-class theme parks throughout China and beyond. Their dedication to providing high-end thrilling immersive experiences is very impressive and we are honored to be a part of their vision for success. The Wanda team is very focused and works hard to ensure the best possible product. Premier has great synergy with Wanda.”

Premier Rides is known for focusing on large, technically complex projects that incorporate the newest technologies and has provided the ride equipment for award-winning attractions like The Revenge of the Mummy™ at Universal Studios and Full Throttle at Six Flags Magic Mountain. The project with Wanda takes ride technology to the next level and will raise the bar on expectations throughout the industry. Cloaked in a high level of secrecy, details of the project are being kept very quiet.

Seay added “We are honored to be part of Wanda’s team which is absolutely focused on providing the newest and most exciting rides to the entertainment industry. The contract with Wanda is one of the largest ever for Premier Rides and we are very grateful for the trust placed in us. The themed entertainment business is very strong right now and Premier is in a growth phase to meet the industry needs. We are highly focused on the Asian market as its expansion continues to lead the industry and it has become the focus for the best the industry can imagine.”

Could we hear more about this deal at IAAPA? It may be a little soon but it is something worth keeping an eye on.

:)

Sorry if it's a bit off topic but has a European IAAPA ever been held in the UK?

Nope, the IAAPA Attractions Expo has always been held in the USA and a contract was recently signed to keep Orlando as the host until 2030. The IAAPA Expo is the main tade show for the industry however there is also the Euro Attractions Show (an official IAAPA trade show) held in Europe each year. It was last in the UK back in 2011 (Olympia exhibition centre, London) and I suspect it may be back in the UK quite soon, 2018 would not surprise me. There is also an Asian Attractions Expo.

You can see more here.

More background on Intamin's double launch coaster thanks to insidethemagic.net

Carl Lum, President of SeaWorld San Antonio, was on hand to help introduce the new cars for the double launch coaster. The new $18 million ride is scheduled to open in the summer of 2017 and “will reach heights of up to 61 feet, with the majority of the coaster’s 2,600-foot track directly over water, creating the sensation that riders are surging across the park’s Ski Lake,” according to Travelweek.

Whack one of these on Thorpe Park's lake!

Just seen a video over on Instagram, Mack have premiered a model for a new Extreme Spinning Coaster!

It appears to be very similar to the multiple launch style of the likes of Sky Scream at Holiday Park, only with spinning cars. Almost like a non water, more spinning looping variety of Pulsar ;)

I can see this being of interest to smaller parks looking for something a bit different.

Intamin are at it again with a new Zac Spin, clearly a response to S&S's recent foray into this niche in the market. It's much bigger than the last gen, features a rolling station, LSM launch, LSM lift with a boost at the end, offers three seating arrangements (forwards, backward, face to face (but not outwards for some reason)), and crucially, the excellent new Mack-inspired restraints as seen on Taron.

I've done Insane at Grona Lund and if it wasn't for the old style restraints it probably would have been alright so this new model could be decent, but to be honest the LSMs just seem like a gimmick and as far as I'm aware only Six Flags have bothered with S&S's version, and the original Intamin version didn't exactly do all that well, so I can't see this being very successful either.

Video from CF and Intamin etc

Hmmm, it looks better than the S&S version and I like the LSM lift idea which makes it a little more unique. These types of coasters just don't appeal to me though, the only thing they are good for is if a park needs a cheap thrill in a limited footprint.
