Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

The theme never related to amputation or accidents, loss of life, etc, I would be surprised if too much changes. Anything that says "I survived the Smile" fair enough, but not too much else :)
 
The Smiler was once again testing at times today. Only 2 trains were running: 2 and 5.
 
Its an odd one....i love the ride, ok its no nemesis or oblivion but it I a great thrill ride. I also am sensible enough to know that riding it again is perfectly safe as this was a freak accident. I don't even think its disrespectful to the victims to ride it. I do however fear that any excitement and tension you get from queuing will be lost because of what has happened making it all feel a bit, well, meh.

Shame really....i hope I am proved wrong. I think the only way this can happen is for the ride theme to be kept I its original form, and if possible, improved. Working effects 100% of the time (tunnel.smoke) would be a great start.
 
I thought the smoke machine was stopped for a certain reason (can't remember what) but not because it was broken. Love to see the glass floor clean again and the exit lit better. Also having the marmaliser working and the projectors in the projector room aligned again.

I have never seen the glass floor before lol
 
The glass floor is in the shop area. As for the smoke, it was leaking into other areas of the building causing problems with fire detection system.

I don't think having to evac the ride to a smoke machine on re-opening would be the best of starts.
 
Its something that can be got around by changing the detectors or the type of smoke machine, but they are probably not worth the cost for the sake of a little mist, even if it does make the ride better
 
If they built it (the building) properly, and thought about installing the right kind of detectors, then we wouldn't be without a smoke filled tunnel.

The glass floor is where you walk in/out of the shop. It sounded great when the ride was in development although is laughable in reality. It doesn't really serve a purpose for you to look at the ride below (because it's meant to be dark below), and when you're on the ride it just lights up the whole concrete/breeze block hell hole.

They should order a black mat with The Smiler logo and cover it over the glass.
 
Didn't see The Smiler testing at all today, although I wasn't in X-Sector much so it may have done.
Had a look at the mystery pole/wind sensor/whatever it is and it's hard to say for sure what it is - it does look like it's the same as whatever is on the top of the first lift hill though - is that new?

I assume that the investigation centres on both a) why did it stall and b) why was the incident allowed to happen.

If we consider part a) - I'm guessing that (what looks like) wind sensors indicate that that weather conditions on the day had something to do with it. Its well known on this forum that the ride struggled most in windy conditions - I wouldn't be surprised to see the ride shut when wind speeds exceed 'X' mph. It's not an unknown situation or weather to shut rides, certainly - most of Florida shuts the moment a storm is detected in the area.
 
With regards to changing the detectors from optical to heat detectors, it isn't exactly the hardest and most time consuming job. It shouldn't take a competent alarm engineer any more than an hour to swap a few heads and do a relearn on the fire panel if it's an addressable system.

Really no excuse to turn an effect off for ages as a result.

Am I right to believe that cleaning was underway today? To me that means no more work is going to happen, which points towards an immanent opening in the next few days surely?
