Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

Why even debate about what the social media team say? If they don't include The Smiler in the list of not scheduled to be open then people will assume it will be opening. By simply saying that it's not scheduled to they are effectively allowing themselves to open it if they physically can/want to, as well as having the ability to say 'we told you so' if they don't. Even with the 'foreseeable future' comments that we used to get, they have just been wording everything in such a way to avoid people getting the wrong idea or using their choice of words against them! Had they said 'we would like to open before the end of the season' then there would be an uproar should they not. It's been the same since June so why would they change now? I personally still think it will open, but that's beside the point.
 
I would be very surprised if they are going to all this effort around the Smiler site.... given winter is just around the corner if its not going to open very soon
 
Yeah, there has been people working on the marmaliser yesterday and Thursday, why work on theming that would just get left over closed season and not be used unless it's going to work. With all the cost cutting they wouldn't be testing an expensive to run ride just to show how safe it is to the GP, they wouldn't go through all this work and maintenance to not open it.
 
I've been expecting them to open for Scarefest IF cleared by HSE and their own procedures (and have been pretty much since the accident). Social media etc just fluff on the sidelines. If it doesn't open then the current work will have helped Merlin identify what else needs to be changed for next season so the time and cost will not really be wasted.
 
1 and 5, 5 dummies in each, train 5 had 4 in row 2 and 1 in row 3 2nd seat from the left as it's heading to you, train 1 had 4 in row 1 and 1 in row 2 1st seat from the left as it's heading to you.
 
Surely even 3 cars will be crappy throughput?? Especially when no one will want to go on the front row.... What did it used to run on normally?

It may be that its closed all season....

but...... why all the testing.... why the work on the marmaliser..... why all the cleaning up around the site...... why the stock crates in the shop...... to me, that sounds like preparing for opening, not closing it up for the next 6 months...

Of course they've told you that, why on earth would they tell you otherwise? They're not going to tell one person on Twitter (or anywehre else for that matter if it wasn't Twitter that you asked) that it is scheduled to open! If they start doing that it's going to work its way into the media. Social media or individual response via email etc isn't exactly the ideal place to annouce the re-opening of The Smiler either.

Also are you not aware that schedules are subject to change? Alton Towers were schedules to have a high CAPEX year from Merlin in 2017 and now they are not.

I still fully expect that Towers plan to open The Smiler this year - Varney has said as much for a start! Plus with the amount of work that has taken place in recent weeks that could have been done more easily in an empty park over the closed season means something.

I doubt lower throughput will be an issue when a lot of people will not be riding it again because of the crash. It will probably outweigh itself. Lower throughout + less guests wanting to ride it = queue times similar to how it has always been.

I doubt the front row will be that much of a problem either. I'd guess if people want to ride it in the first place then they know it really was just an accident, the ride is safe and therefore don't care whether they go on the front, middle or back of the train.
 
I actuallly think the front row could be a possible issues - I have seen comments in various places from people saying that they'll ride it again but not at the front. I'd imagine if it is an issues it will only be a short term thing. Fine by me as means those that want the front are more likely to get it, and the front gives the best ride on The Smiler!
