It's a bit windy out

So far all seems fine on the outskirts of Brizzle. It’s blowy out but as far as I can tell no one has lost any roof tiles or other important things.
Chimp’s riding school has even said lessons will happen tomorrow (they’ve closed for today). Horses are notoriously scared of wind - tomorrow could be exhilarating!

We're in the red zone again on the coast. The worst has passed now, but it was pretty ugly in the early hours. The noise woke me up when it was at it's peak around 4am, trees bending sideways and very loud. The rain isn't heavy but the gusts smash it all into your face.

The warning alert from the government came through just before 7 last night (I got 2?). Terrified my youngest and had to tell her not to worry. She's slept through the night. Both Severn bridges closed so it sucks if you have to drive all the way up to Strensham to get to the M50 to get into Wales.

I got 2 as well, and at a very similar time. My train left Cardiff at 18:45 last night, and I got the first one somewhere around Newport (which was probably just before 19:00) and the second one somewhere between Caldicot and Chepstow (around 10-15 minutes later).

It was quite funny, actually, as in a busy train, everyone’s red alert seemed to go off at a slightly different time, meaning that you had a train full of red alerts sporadically going off…

Been pretty wet & windy here in leafy Cheshire close to the banks of The Mersey. It woke me up around 5AM, mainly due to the fact I had left a window open 🤣. I live in a very old house and the wind howls through at the best of times. With a window open it sounded like a bomb was going off. Lots of Wheelie Bins out for a wonder. Keeping a close eye on those roof tiles. Last time there were persistent strong winds from a Northerly direction the smashed remains of the ridge tiles ended up in a neighbours garden.

Had planned to go to Liverpool today, but canned that idea last night. Good job, I did venture to corner shop to get some milk and the wind was bitterly cold. Not sure it would of been enjoyable. Sill, got round to getting the Christmas tree up.

Trains still running though, bar the odd cancellation due to 'Debris on the line'(AKA rogue Trampolines). Closed in Chester direction due to flooding, but that floods every time there's so much as a light drizzle these days so that's not surprising.

Once the rain subsides, The Pub is calling, Beer is needed.

Currently in Bristol airport hotel wondering if my flight will depart on time tomorrow morning. Still sounds really windy out there. Going to be a bumpy ride whatever!

Looking at the way this low pressure is slowly moving east, taking off should be fine.
Landing anywhere on the continent however mate...

I'm looking forward to a slow local tour in the megashed later looking for firewood.
Excuse to do the Ribble estuary as well.

Our village is right on the edge of the Severn Estuary and we'd been led to expect apocalyptic scenes - red warnings going off and messages from worried parents etc. Strangely nothing in our garden has shifted at all, even a very lightweight metal goose sculpture that was just propped up against the wall. Think our garden must be oddly sheltered so the wind has just whipped all around us and left us alone!

We didn’t “win”, in this case, as the mixing bowl has now been carried up and blown out of our garden right into our neighbours’ garden…
I'm guessing the implication is that 'winners' are those that didn't experience significant damage whereas 'losers' have a big clean up operation now. Though an old mixing bowl does sound like a great prize too!

The fence between us and next door came down. But it always does that if you look at it to hard. Glad I convinced M'lady to park on the road last night.

I have to say that for my locality personally, I think Storm Bert 2 weeks ago was more devastating. While I personally live on higher ground, so wasn’t badly affected by flooding, the lower ground locally, including the local town centre, was very badly flooded and an old bridge in the town almost collapsed, so is still closed while they check it for signs of structural decay. The town centre in question was shown on BBC Points West as an example of particularly bad flooding in the West, for some idea.

Many of the town centre shops are still closed from flood damage caused by Storm Bert, and the situation with the bridge is not helped by the fact that people seem to keep driving through the “Road Closed” signs and driving over it anyway, including one person who sped through them and crashed into the bridge, delaying the checks further due to the damage caused from the person crashing into it at high speed…
