There's a big piece on Attraction Source about all the new plans. Whilst they don't have the new coaster planning permission details yet you can see where it'll go in theory and there's a good amount of room (the coaster for example can go over the Spider ride). I think you're right in that the entrance would be next to Destiny Bounty with removal of the rock climb.

With the news of the Legoland Discovery Centres being sold to Lego this week and the ambitious plans now revealed for Legoland I'm putting 2 and 2 together and thinking it's only a matter of time before it's announced that Lego will also be purchasing the Legoland Parks.

It's become pretty obvious that Merlin are starting to sell a hefty chunk of their portfolio (I personally think is mostly due to Universal being on the horizon and them not willing to invest the amount needed to bring it's attractions upto scratch) so I wouldn't be too surprised if that's the next one to be announced.

Legoland has always been the most looked after of the Merlin Parks so I don't actually think it needs the amount of work that is scheduled however always welcomed!

I'm looking forward to seeing what's on the horizon.

What does VIP Ride Access entail? For 5 people on a peak day, you'd probably pay close to that for entry and Gold Fast Track so it's not an awful offer considering the other perks.

Agree it's a bit odd that it's for Legoland of all the parks. If there was a 2 person version for Chessington i'd probably be quite tempted.

But if we are going to be pedantic, the sale of the LEGOLAND Discovery Centres was announced in September, as we both know, via a joint press release.

I believe we had the discussion about whether LEGO would buy the parks back then (but I suppose when has that stopped anyone here from retreading old ground). 😉

I can add a bit more to this (it's OK Goose I have you covered this time 😉)

The Lego Discovery Centres are more than just rebrands. They are the 5 attractions that opened after the Kirkbi buyout. 3 were new (Brussels, Washington, Hamburg), 2 were overhauled (Boston and Atlanta*).
Lego was a lot more involved with their development, and they are a sort of mix between the old Discovery Centres with elements from the Lego House. The biggest difference is that you start the attraction by building a Minifigure which you use to complete a number of activities during your visit.
Miniland was also rebranded to Miniworld and is split to include both the local City and fantasy lands based on Lego themes.
* Atlanta kept there old Miniland, I think this was a test between it and Boston to see which approach was preferred.

If your only experience of the Discovery Centres is Manchester or Birmingham you'd be surprised how different these feel.

I imagine after the takeover we'll either see Lego keep updating the existing Centres under the brand of Lego Discovery Centre, or they will drop the idea entirely and turn them all in to Lego stores. But that's just my speculation.

As pointed out the newer LEGO discovery centres are a bit more retail experience rather than mini indoor amusement parks, I don’t know if Lego are really ready to operate the theme parks directly and as they own a percentage share of Merlin I’m unsure if they need to.

I think if it does happen it would be part of a bigger splitting of Merlin as part of multiple different sales of parts of the business.
