Longleat Safari Park: General Discussion

I've just arrived home from Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire, and I noticed that it didn't have its own thread! So here you have it, a thread dedicated to one of Britain's best safari parks.

You've just returned from there and started a thread whilst writing nothing about the attraction you've just been to

Longleat is undeniably a nice place, if safari parks are your thing.

The driving safari is impressive (albeit my ever-worsening ability to stay awake as a passenger in cars meant that I drifted off to sleep around bits of it on my last visit there last year…), and there are also some really nice areas in the walk-around section once you’ve done the safari. There’s a really nice boat ride with sea lions and views of other animals like gorillas, and there are also koala bears and other animals in exhibits on land! (As you can perhaps tell, I do not have the same nerdy knowledge about animals that I have about theme parks and roller coasters…)

When I went as a child, I also remember the maze being good fun. I feel like I also have a vague recollection of there being some sort of Postman Pat attraction (?). I remember going in the house as a child, but as of my last visit in 2024, they now charge for house access, unfortunately.

I went a fair few times as a child by virtue of us going to Center Parcs Longleat Forest near-annually when I was young and it being a very frequent “last day” activity after we left Center Parcs!

What did you make of it @MrCoaster? Was it a first time visit, or are you a frequent visitor?

I went last year for the first time. Feeding the sealions from the boat was undoubtedly my favourite bit. I also had the ticket which included house access, so having a look inside there was pretty decent. I did the driving safari before heading home and it was OK (I avoided the monkey bit as I didn't want my car getting smashed to bits).

Would recommend visiting once but it is a little bit pricey.

I've been often. The drive through was great (though we lost an aerial to the monkeys), the jungle cruise was good fun, the place was really clean and the lantern trail (this year a cross between Aardman and British icons) was the best I've ever seen it. While it costs a fair bit, it has good value for money. The most annoying part was the fact that you had to queue for literally everything, and that because of that we couldn't do a lot of the attractions in one day. Would still recommend, though!
