No Alton Towers Live in 2014

Festivals are finding it really hard to book decent acts this year, so I don't expect Alton Towers have much chance of booking big names this year, unfortunately.

It may have nothing much to do with Merlin, it may be more to do with the local community and the sheer volume of traffic and chaos it brings to the local area. I'm guessing Alton have to get approval for such events to take place, maybe they cant get it for this year.

Just a guess...

Just one thing worth noting which I know may go against the grain of Merlin hating (and lord knows I love a bit of Merlin hating!). Last year's Alton Towers Live was actually a gig organised by AEG which was copied across multiple sites. If you take a look at north east live from last year, you'll see a different line up but the same branding used:

I'm sure there was one or two other gigs which used the same branding too, but can't seem to remember them at the moment. Anyway, this year it seems that the "UK Live" brand is actually heading to just three sites; Sunderland (North East Live), Ipswich (East Coast Live) and West Super-Mare (South West Live) filling the spot previously filled by T4 On The Beach.

I have a feeling that perhaps AEG were expecting better ticket sales for the events, and perhaps decided to downgrade them to just three events this year. This article does state there's plans to increase this to 10 sites at a rate of 1 or 2 per year, so perhaps we will see a return in future? It does mention 2 further sites have already been secured for 2015 so who knows?
