I played footy this morning for the first time in ages and all of the lads were taking the **** out of me for wearing pants instead of boxers. I’ve always worn pants for footy, don’t want things moving around down there when running around. I thought this was quite normal, but the way the lads were going on I was a freak for wearing them. Surely I can’t be the only one that still wears pants?

There are significant advantages to the pant over the boxer on a football field...

I am a pant person, Or "briefs" .
I can't stand baggy boxer shorts , they are just too uncomfortable.
Not sure if this story is true but I heard the reason that boxers became popular was all down to the 1980's Levi's advert where a guy goes into the laundrette and takes his jeans off to wash them. The advertising people were not happy with him showing so much flesh so they got him to wear boxer shorts. And that is why they are still the popular choice of underwear today.
But I am sticking to my briefs !! --- Not literally !!!!

I've heard that story a few times, and it's plausible. Think there was also something involving Mark Wahlberg in the 90s which led to the rise of loose-fit boxer shorts, but I'm not 100% certain.I am a pant person, Or "briefs" .

I tend to vary what I wear depending on what I fancy wearing that day and any other requirements. I figure it's better to have some variety than stick to just one type.Could always get a jockstrap for footy? Although most of the time for running/exercise I used compression type boxer briefs under sports shorts.
But wear whatever makes you comfortable. For everyday wear I do a mixture of briefs, boxer briefs, trunks, loose boxers and jocks.

Boxer breifs generally are longer in the leg than trunk boxers. I would agree that most people probably do wear boxer briefs or trunks.^ I've heard them called boxer-briefs. I'm sure I read somewhere that that style is the most popular now, although I can't seem to find a link for it at the moment

I think you're right. Whenever I've gone shopping for new underwear, it's the boxer-briefs and trunks which have by far the biggest ranges on sale. I just wish more colourful briefs were on sale in stores like Next (my go-to for years when it comes to clothing), as a lot of what they sell in terms of briefs look a bit boring for my tastes.Boxer breifs generally are longer in the leg than trunk boxers. Boxers briefs or trunks are so uncomfortable for playing football, they ride up all the time and feel like you’re wearing 2 pairs of shorts. i can never understand how professional footballers wear boxers. The slim briefs, I think they call them slips are definitely the best to wear under shorts for sports, but most shops only seem to sell boxers or trunks

For the gym, I'd usually go for compression gear, as that's what worked for me. Tried briefs once or twice, and they didn't seem to be right for me at the gym, which is perhaps a bit strange when I like them as regular underwear. At the end of the day, I guess it's just a matter of personal preference.Boxers briefs or trunks are so uncomfortable for playing football, they ride up all the time and feel like you’re wearing 2 pairs of shorts. i can never understand how professional footballers wear boxers.
