Paultons Park: General Discussion

I think u got to remember there a theme park that aim for the under 12 market and it’s the perfect market for families with most of there profits go towards improving the park. They don’t want lots of groups of Teenagers.

I agree with this, at the moment Paulton’s is a lovely family friendly park that feels like a very safe environment for everyone to enjoy. It’s keep in a very clean way and is a really pleasant place to visit.

The park has to be very careful if they are wanting to go down a route of having some more thrilling rides that this family orientated dynamic doesn’t change because if it did they’d lose one of best things about the park. And that’s the thing, it really doesn’t need to be a thrill seekers park when it’s on such a good course as being a fantastic family park.

If they got more thrill rides it wouldn't necessarily be to attract more thrill seekers; Parents and teens in family groups would have some more rides to go on that they would enjoy. It would make Paulton's a true family theme park- with something for everyone.

Places like Europa Park have thrill rides and have a perfectly nice atmosphere. As do plenty of other European theme parks (from what I’ve heard). Why couldn’t Paultons pull off the same thing?
They absolutely can do it but space will be an issue. Somewhere like Alton Towers can very easily hit every market because it's such a large site. A thrill ride doesn't have to take up room that a family ride could otherwise occupie and vice versa. But a park the size of Paultons or Drayton Manor will have to make choices based on the land available.

Paultons could easily do what Chessie did in the 90s in having a few thrill rides in terms of enticing the return visits as the kids grow up.

Start off with Peppa Pig rides, then move up every year as they grow until (currently) Cyclonator as the final goal.

Just depends on their local planning issues where they can go currently. Certainly a wooden coaster would be the perfect foil for the current line up, but a dark ride or decent water ride would also suit.

Atm though it's about the only UK park I trust to have a plan in place.

The park is a similar size to Phantasialand. I don't buy they lack room. Might not be Towers size but it can be done.
Phantasialand is a perfect example of the compromise. They've got a good balance between kids, family and thrill rides. However they have had to make sacrifices to fit in their recent giant coasters. I'd definitely say they cater more to the thrill market now than the other 2 markets. And their next major addition will involve the removal of at least one more family ride. They could replace it with a new family ride and keep the park in balance. But the current trend is one major thrill ride with maybe a family support ride if it can fit in.

I agree they're treading a fine line at Phantasia but when Fantissima, Bats and Hollywood Snore go it opens up for some more family stuff. Especially if they bin Wakaboto.

With Paultons, if they have planning issues a woodie would be hard to achieve simply for noise reasons

Yeah that's a good point. It would have to be covered in sound tunnels, although knowing Paulton's they would be heavily themed. A Family RMC could be a quieter option, but aren't the lift hills on RMCs really loud?

They look like two particularly non-spinny rides on Storm Chaser to me; I had one where it literally span manically from the second it left the lift hill to the second it hit the brake run!

As someone with a reasonably low spin tolerance, I’ll admit it made me feel a bit sick (unlike the other two rides I had, which were fine and span nowhere near as much). But I think it spins more than enough, in general!

Yeah I think @Themeparksandy1981 must've had two rides where the weight distribution wasn't right. If it is, the cars will spin more. :)

It's not a very good spinner (probably the worst Mack Spinner of the 3 I've done), but it is a spinner. They won't install another I don't think.

I think a magic carpet ride, a bigger pirate ship and a Dodgems would fit nicely into the older family market. With a new spinning coaster, rapids and a shooting targets dark ride.

They definitely don’t need a new spinning coaster! But a magic carpet could be a good addition along with a much needed water ride (be it a rapids or flume) and a dark ride. I don’t think it even necessarily needs to be a shooting ride, just a nicely themed experience. Remember how magical Professor Burps Bubbleworks was? I’d take something that charming and memorable over a shooting ride any time.

A wooden coaster though would certainly be a fantastic addition to the park and you know that Paulton’s could integrate in beautifully in to whatever themed area they were creating.
