Paultons Park: General Discussion

Still think they have dropped the ball massively with this coaster choice. All the best coasters being made right now have lap bars really.

It will probably ride pretty well in year 1 and maybe year 2 as well. After that I don't even think Paulton's fantastic ride maintenance team will be able to keep it smooth. It then becomes more or less unrideable for me personally. I almost hate Eurofighters with OTSR's as much as I do SLC's.

A Mack Big Dipper would have been far far better.

And in this POV you can see the camera jolting about in places.

Again, while I'm not expecting a top of the line thrill coaster, it still looks intense and fast to me, and most issues with jolting or roughness could be mitigated with padding in the restraints (it happened with a new-ish Eurofighter in a mountaintop amusement park in N. America).

People here are just flipping out a bit over Paultons settling for a B-list kind of thrill coaster instead of a A-list one (when the Viking area has an ensemble of rides instead of being anchored by one or two very big ones).

For 2027, while likely not a full thrill ride and more family thrill, I'm vaguely expecting the Wicker Man but with water (a tracked water coaster).

I can't even think of the last new well received coaster that had OTSR. Lots of the major parks (eg Efteling and Disney) have long ago retrofitted their family thrill coasters with vest restraints presumably at least partly based on customer feedback.
Rapterra at Kings Dominion, which opened earlier this year, or really any B&M Wing / Junior Wing coaster.

Eurofighters got an inherent minor design flaw where their compact and relatively tall carriages supposedly pressing down on the tracks, wearing them away and causing roughness.

Those have vest restraints though, not traditional OTSRs.
They have over the shoulder vest restraints. The restraint is still fitted over the shoulder, and your upper body is restrained to some degree.

It's merely an evolution in design to "traditional OSTRs", but they are still OSTRs.
Was it well received? All I've ever seen is people going on about how badly it bounces along the launch.
Well received by some, critiqued by others. I could go out and cherry pick some reviews, but others will able to find negative ones too.

Generally it was well received, although not widely acclaimed to be the best ride ever.

In a similar respect, all I have ever seen about Voltron is about how it rattles. I feel like we're in an age where everything is over analysed and nothing will ever truly be considered perfect. Everyone is a critic.

The point is that there are rides with over the shoulder restraints which are garnering a positive reception, which was the original query.

Wrath of Rakshasa has OTSRs and… nope I can’t say it. It’s awful 😂

Restraints on it are fine though. But I don’t think anyone complains about the comfort of B&M vests really.

It’s only one train that rattles on Voltron - rest are fine. Which is disappointing in itself because some people are getting diabolical rides on it then writing it off as bad.

I believe (it was a year ago now I rode it so forgive me if I’m wrong) it does have some slightly different padding to the older Gerst OTSRs - if so it didn’t improve things sadly

Rapterra was rather bouncy and seemed to be worse the further down the train you rode it.

All the modern vekomas I've ridden (Lech, Formula, Abyssus, The Flash) all have ostrs and are fantastic coasters.
