Well it just means the Merlin team visited the Vekoma factory on a research trip to see if they like anything that Vekoma is offering. Any model of new Vekoma at a Merlin park would be great though.

Intriguing indeed... Is that actually an official Instagram account? I've not had chance to check. Certainly not like Merlin to post anything publicly!
Also that earlier image shared by Rob really does show actually how little of this ride has been built so far despite them starting so early!

Noticed the leg restraints on these start higher up the leg than B&M ones do and take up more of your leg too.

Anyone else getting the feeling this is going to be 2019? The park haven't confirmed a 2018 opening have they? The project looks absolutely massive and I've got a feeling it's going to be so amazing (Taron style) we might not see it opened till 2019.
I could be wrong but it looks well behind schedule if it is 2018.

I think it's incredibly likely that this is in fact a 2019 project. Compare Taron's progress at this time in 2016 to now. Given Phantasialand's heavy theming, this is not even close to being finished!
Yea my thoughts exactly. I shall save my first ever trip there till 2019 I think. I want to ride Taron so badly however I think I will wait so I can get in on the FLY action too.

As with Klugheim the park do not comment on when it will open but it is without a doubt 2019 considering how much needs to be built and the fact the park is not marketing it at all.
The staff in the park I spoke to on my last visit said 2019 as well.
There'd also be no need for the park to open it this year as the marketing pull of Klugheim is still enough to attract people. And they seem to now operate a 3 year pattern of investment recently for large scale projects like this: Had Chiapas opened in 2013 as planned it would have been 3 years until Klugheim in 2016 and then 3 years until Rookburgh in 2019.

I thought as much. Probably for the best too as I don't think I could afford it this year anyway with all I have planned. Definitely think an Efteling / Phantasialand trip is now on the cards for 2019 though.

The hilly terrain and the way the park is built up with a lot of concrete makes it difficult to get an uniformly strong mobile reception through the park. After two years of planning of planning and coordination with three different service providers Phantasialand has installed a new hidden transmitter mast.
The park already has two transmission towers (one at Hotel Ling Bao and the other at Wuze Town) and the third mast is there just to increase capacity for even more data traffic so guests can "send selfies anytime, anywhere, share fantastic experiences on Facebook or just check your emails."
The task was problematic as the location had to be high enough for long range, stable enough for the heavy technology and perfectly hidden as not to disturb the immersive themed areas. The solution was to hide the modern technology within one of the towers on top of the Schauspielhaus (home to the 4D cinema and annual pass centre) on corner of Kaiserplatz in Berlin.
The tower on the roof however had to be extended by more than two meters to fit the transmission mast.
A specialist film set painter was brought in to create the fiberglass structure that encloses the mast and fits the typical look of the existing building resulting in the perfect illusion. They had to be careful about the paint used to create the copper look to blend with the roof. It couldn't be rich in metal as that would interfere with the signals.

The video features a shot of a drawing of the facade of the Schauspielhaus with the new transmitter tower.
At the front it says "Eingang Gasteservice" - entrance guest services. A teaser/sign that we can expect the 4D cinema to be removed and replaced with a new large guest services soon? Seems like a waste of such a large venue in my opinion but as long as that awful cinema is disappearing soon I'm happy.
