PortAventura: General Discussion

It’s interesting that B&M’s USP for years - smooth intensity - is no longer a USP, given the advances companies like Mack and Vekoma have made to their designs and manufacturing. Even more curious that B&M’s track seems to have gone in the other direction to everyone else’s.
It must be connected to the sudden stop of all of the B&M’s being constructed in China causing the company to repivot its after the Chinese property market collapsed. B&M were still riding the high tails of their success from the 90s/00s in a different market whilst the other manufacturers were innovating in the west.

Even the likes of RMC were obtaining contracts the size of new B&Ms with the addition of Steel Vengeance, and B&M had nothing new to sell to the likes of Cedar Point. The design philosophy had changed in the market for premium coasters and B&M had no reason to change because what they lost in trade from Western parks were more than being made up for by Chinese property developers.

With how little fanfare the Dragon Khan retrack has had compared to Hulk and even Nemesis then it must have been positioned as cost-effective service, rather than a premium service for big spender parks. It’s sad to see what was once the dominant player in the industry fall so far. Even the likes of Taziker, a company with no history of building rollercoasters, could make smoother track than B&M can produce now. Does anyone know of any leadership changes at B&M, because right now the company is very much reminding me of the fall of Blackberry.
