Quick Questions

Yep that’s the entrance! It seems to also lead towards CBeebies land, where there’s another mystery building! Does anyone know what the buildings are for?

The things you find when looking at satellite view!

This building? If so, that's security/gatehouse

Ah thanks! Looks like the closest you can get on street view to the rest of the area south of there is this ominous looking gate!

Yeah. That’s part of the perimeter road that goes from the security entrance, behind CeeBeebies, Spinball, Smiler which then curves round at the bottom of Oblivions dip before the brake run, behind and next to Oblivjons station (you can see the road on the exit ramp and the road then goes up the hill past the flag tower and up behind Walliams World and the Hex show building. MMM is also based here

I remember seeing a video from a YouTube channel called Out of Society two years ago where two lads broke into the park and ran amok does anyone know what came of that? Did the park ever make a statement or investigation?

There was a fashion for it at a lot of parks.
Thrown out on discovery and injunctions issued for lots of named individuals, if I recall it right.
Bloody idiots.
Unfortunately it is still quite fashionable, someone broke into the railway I volunteer at about half a year ago and filmed themselves exploring an "abandoned" railway siding despite the fact you could hear the train RUNNING less than 50 meters away WHILST HE WAS STOOD ON THE MAIN LINE, the only reason he wasn't hit (he was standing in a blind spot) was probably because it was a special service where the loco didn't travel the full length of the line. we pointed out how dangerous this was to him, and the fact he was messing with the rolling stock and could easily have killed himself but he just deleted all the comments and called everyone who criticized him "woke".

I'm staying on resort on Friday, will the main entrance be open on Friday afternoon or do I have to cycle through the security / staff entrance?

Yeah the main entrance is usually open all day, even off season as the hotels and water park is open. It then usually closes a couple of hours after ride close, and you would have to enter/exit using the security entrance.

Apologies if this has been answered before, but does anybody know how who calculates the ride times at Alton Towers? Is it automated by cameras, or does somebody manually observe the queue line (and count the number of trains in operation) and type in an estimate? If it's a person, then does anybody know where this is done (e.g. on site, or via remote CCTV)?

I only ask because I had assumed that it was semi-automated, but a vlogger recently implied that it was done manually (or at least was that way in the past).

Also: this is just my conspiracy theory, but I sometimes wonder whether parks deliberately under-estimate the queue length of certain rides in order to encourage people to flock to certain areas of the park and avoid overcrowding elsewhere (I specifically thought this about The Swarm in Thorpe Park, where 10 minute queues suddenly seem to jump up to 35 minutes!).

from what I have seen typically the ride operator (people behind the window at the station) has cctv and they have a small map with each possible queue lay out and the estimated times maked in terms of distance along the queue.

it probably jumped up because the operator was focusing on something, then saw the queue and saw it has become longer.

This is correct. From what I’ve been told they update it roughly every 10 mins or so which can explain the fluctuations. A lot of people can join a queue in a 10 minute window.

Hiya folks, visiting the park this Saturday. Just wondering what's the best game plan nowadays with rides not opening on time etc, does dark forest tend open on time?
Normally do Dark Forest first, then up into Forbidden Valley. Then back down to Wicker Man/X-Sector. Guess it's just pot luck lol.

Hello, just wondering what is the policy is for eyewear on attractions like Nemesis or the Smiler. Do they go under loose articles or can you wear them on ride?

Glasses technically count as loose articles and ought to be removed. Usually it's down to the ride host's discretion and the guest's credit card limit. Rita is a flat out no.

The exception to all of this is if your glasses are secured to your head with an elastic glasses strap, which are pretty cheap and cheerful in a variety of places.
