I must’ve been cynical from a young age because I used to hear that in the queue and think well they’re popping back up out the ground 2 seconds later.

That was from the Rehydrator which was closed and turned into a foodstall (kept the same name though) in the early 2000s

Think people might be getting mixed up with couple different things here

The "We regret to inform you that a ride car has gone missing" script was the Rehydrator video and was not removed for any particular reason (unlike people often say on YouTube etc).

The parts cut post-Smiler were the 'argument video' ("I've heard some of the cars go missing!" "See you around, bye.." etc) and the line "Welcome to eternal darkness" from the station.

The edit of the station music with some of the lines mixed in was never used on park and was a short loop meant for the minisite in 1998. It was the version you could download online from Towers Times for years so fans often mistook it as the ride version

    Tough one.

    Great tier
Id say Nemesis, Wicker Man and Th13teen all have pretty good soundtracks which help build the atmosphere. All 3 fit the theme really well. And I do always enjoy it when they take 'in the hall of the mountain king' and work it into the ride music.

    Okay Tier

Galactica - Space soundtrack seems a little bit cheesy and generic. But at least it does fit the futuristic feel of the ride. Personally liked Air slightly better.

    Bad Tier

    The Smiler.
Yes, I know this is going to be a controversial one but it's just my opinion.
The smiler theme is a big offput for me whenever I walk past it. I find the noisy laughing played on the speakers really annoying and repetative. Im just not into the whole laughing gas/ brainwashing theme myself but I understand why others might like it, it certainly fits the crazy layout of the ride.

    Oblivion Tier

Step back into the 1990s with this really outdated theme. The music doesn't really reflect the ride. It should be more dark and mysterious. Currently it gives the ride very little atmosphere.

But that's the expected thing to do. Oblivion has a strong style but it's not really 'themed' in a traditional way, it's supposed to be suspenseful and imposing but uber cool and modern.

It doesnt work today because the music's production is pretty outdated. It was only ever meant to be played loud in the station for the 2 mins you are preparing to board, not supposed to be the ride's 'theme tune'. So the music is kind of used differently to the other coasters

The rest the ride is strange industrial ambiance, weird new age buildings, ambiguity.. It just doesnt work today because the place is falling apart and the queue TVs broken, audio quiet etc.

But I still think it was a clever stroke giving the ride something different to the 'expected' dark horror type music.

The entire ride just needs a solid refresh today, refurbished buildings, new look area, revamped soundtrack... Go back to the designs and realise it properly.

I'd sort of argue that those 2 minutes of being in the station before the ride are some of the most important for building up suspense and excitement.
I also didn't say that the soundtrack was a 'theme tune' but rather that the music doesn't fit the idea of the ride - it sounds like some sort of outdated disco music.

Im not saying you said I said you said etc I was just making a general comment about the ride

Of course those minutes in the station are very important and youre not wrong. I meant how its now used outside too and sounds random and horrible, instead of for 2 mins on a big sound system as you board

Instead of just being the expected dark and sinister music it builds excitement in a very different way. If every ride was like that it would be tiresome but it was quite original for Oblivion.

It just doesnt work how it should anymore because of the general tiredness of the whole ride. It needs a refurbishment with new production to become slick and contemporary again, without losing the original theme

After all the build up, the big sinister climax is when you would be held at the top and the voice whispers "Dont look down!" but of course this had to be removed sadly

I really miss Don't look down. I obviously know why they had to get rid of it. But I dont get why they couldn't just lower the volume of it or use it in the station istead.

It might have been an Environmental order about noise pollution, after the noise complaints with the infamous Ropers case. I dont buy the 'it was making people scream' reason unless the deciding judge was being really thick
