Can confirm after being there today that it wasn't an app error or anything, it did actually open at 11:30

It’s so lovely to have the Skyride back open again. It’s one of those attractions you don’t fully appreciate until it’s gone — after three years out of action, it felt almost magical gliding over the gardens. The only downside? Being paired with a group of loud schoolboys reminded me just how intimate the ride can feel!

I understand that the skyride will close in hotter weathers…it’s hardly warm and it’s closed?

It's marked as closed due to high temperatures today, hence why @deathproof69 was asking.
Forecast says the temperature could get as high as 25 degrees later today, and it would be even higher in the enclosed glass boxes of the Skyride.

By the time it opens (11am or 12pm?) it will be getting warmer so it would be completely pointless to get all the gondolas out on the wires ready for opening only for it to close a short time later because temperatures are rising. Would be a waste of energy and staff, especially when they can be deployed elsewhere.
It opens later because it takes ages to get ready with more safety checks now. Also in the morning other rides are more priority to get open.

I would say it is almost certainly weather related. Don't forget those glass cabins will heat up like a greenhouse if the ride stops.

I am near Alton, the temperature doesn't do it justice, it is really sunny, and it is just baking hot, the sun is just beating down, the air temp may not be high, but the heat from the sun is huge today

I am also at AT today and gutted to see it's closed due to warm weather. Am also staying overnight so don't have much hope for tomorrow.
My kid is happy though, she loves Smiler but is scared of riding a cable car

I forgot to mention I was at Towers the other day and the Skyride was closed due to the weather again. I understand 25 degree heat warranting closure (even though Disney's is fine) but it was 21 degrees, not overly hot, people were wearing jumpers etc and there was no wind or rain.
It seems like lately it spends more time closed than open.

Thing is though, it's not just the temperature while operating, but the temperature if the gondolas came to a stop for a long period of time. Disney's highest point is only about 60ft - easily and quickly accessible by cherry picker/fire engine etc in the event of an evac - whereas Towers' highest point is 200ft. If an evac was needed directly from a gondola that far above the gardens, that will take time to organise and carry out - time people wouldn't have in a near-airless plastic box in direct sunlight. It's the human equivalent of not leaving your pets in cars on hot days.
