The Finest Ale

That

That was last night. Our office is near the Midland so we had drinks and shuffle board at BOX on Deansgate (where we were drinking that beer) and had food at EastzEast.

I am usually somewhat ambivalent about Manchester, having worked there on and off for many years, but it is a cool place.

I'll go try the beer..... My hotel is a 10 min walk. Cheers

+1 For Seven Brothers. The new bar in Media City is perfect for a pint in the sun.

Must've been a good night as I went to post that photo this morning only to see I'd done it last night.

Went to a wrestling show (Atomic Pro-wrestling) it was their debut show and it was held at Azvex Brewery in Liverpool so spent the evening trying a large number of their ales.

I keep seeing Azvex being hailed as the best brewery ever, but every time I have one of their beers I seem to be disappointed.

Tonight's was Zombie Squirrel, which smelt of all the hazelnuts it was supposed to be, but drank like nothing more than a strong flat cold coffee.

Tried the Options Empowers and Arctic Vortex last night. Both were decent enough.

Didn't realise they were so highly thought of.

Was a good evening all round visited two of my favourite Liverpool pubs, The Ship and Mitre, and Rigbys.

The owner is one of those who started Neon Raptor, which remains one if the very best breweries in the UK even now after this guy moved on. I think thats where tye hype comes from. I've had a couple of Azvex which have been stunners, but more that have missed the mark.

In a hotel at Wavre ready for a day at Walibi Belgium tomorrow and the bar has both Leffe Blonde and Ruby on tap

I called in at a supermarket earlier and the choice of Belgian ales was fantastic (as you’d expect it to be of course), I picked up some Leffe Winter to try as well.

I've never really got on with Leffe Blonde, so have steered away from the others. What's Ruby and Winter like?

Ahhh, the Novotel I think? If so, walking to the park is the best option. Hope you enjoyed the Leffe!

The Leffe Ruby was really nice, it’s a fruit beer with a taste of strawberries and raspberries but still with that Leffe maltiness. It’s lower than the others at 5% as opposed to the 6.6% of the Blonde and Brune varieties. It’s very drinkable and not as sweet as a Fruli. Personally the Blonde is still my favourite but this was a nice change.

The Winter was nice, similar to a Brune, I’ve seen it described as having some Christmas cake hints to it.

And yes, it was the Novotel just a short walk down the road from the park. It’s a nice hotel, very modern feeling. Nothing better than relaxing with a Tripel Karmeliet after sessioning Kondaa in the last hour of the park, what a fantastic airtime machine.

Thanks, I'll have a look around see if I can get hold of a bottle or two of the others

@Shaggy_Dog_ Didn't know the winter one existed. Christmas cake sounds curious !

Glad you enjoyed Walibi. Was everything running?

Almost everything, the only ride not running was Buzzsaw the Huss Top Spin (which was a bit annoying as I also got spited by Walibi Holland’s Top Spin when I visited last year). It’s a great park, some lovely themed areas, and a really nice atmosphere there. Whilst it’s not quite my favourite beer I got one of these cups to bring home as a souvenir.
