The Finest Ale

Picked up a bottle of “Tangle Foot” earlier today. I look forward to trying any ale named after the second most famous “bag” in D&D.
Meanwhile, this “Tongham Tea” is nice, but a bit too sweet.

Old Peculier...not the beer it used to be!
Cut the alcohol content by around a third.
Used to be known round here as Yorkshire loony brew.
Then they watered it down.
Edit...with yorkshire water.

Badger Brewery are generally quite nice.

Had a lovely pint of trooper from a barrel mug in Bristol yesterday.

Ooh, I do like a bit of Trooper.

Sad to report that Tangle Foot was nothing special.

Making room in the fridge for my Christmas beer deliveries is a tough job, but somebodies got to do it.

From my current favourites Phantom Brewing Co, Revolve. To my taste it's sublime, marmalade sweetness and maltiness balance each other with a bit of a dry bitterness on the finish. Easy drinking for an 8%er and quite subtle, a classy old school dipa.

And most importantly ITS GOT A ROUND UP/HEARTS AND DIAMONDS ON THE CAN!!!!

Father in law has brought these back from the Scotland.

All nice and light. Sometimes these types of brewery can be too heavy. These are bang on

Later in the evening I went on to a couple of good 8% stouts, this Hansel and its pairing Grettle with toffee and caramel, and followed thatbby helping santa with the whisky we left out for him. Decisions I'm now sat at work slightly regretting.

Tartarus beers are awesome though.

Me? The thirteenth duke of Wybourne? Drinking Bishop’s Finger? From a Spitfire glass? With my reputation?

... Bingo. ;)

Picked up a couple of cans from ASDA

I had a can of Cat Amongst from Tooth and Claw last night. Very nice, gets just the right notes.

Also had a Satin Stout from Seven Brothers (Sorry Seven Bro7hers) brewery which was a nice generic stout.

How have I missed the beer thread?

The question "what is the finest ale" is not a simple or easy question to answer. Yes, you all have your own thoughts and opinions - but they are wrong because only my opinions are correct... obviously.

For me, the finest ale always needs the correct context to be the finest. For example, after a long summers day hiking in the Lake District bagging Wainwrights there is nothing finer than sitting in a beer garden, with a world class view rehydrating on a pint of Wainwrights. The most wonderful thing about this is that if anyone in the team orders anything but a Wainwrights, they are universally condemned by all and sundry. I've even staggered into a pub after bagging 10 Wainwrights over 12 hours (on the verge of death, or it felt as if) and the excellent barman greeted me with the single word question "Wainwrights?".

Generally, however, the best ale I have ever drank is Corfu Beer. Again, sat in the sun in the Liston's with a superb view I do know the context of the beer made it taste even better. You can buy imported Corfu beer in the UK at a premium - I have always avoided doing so as I fear it may not taste as good simply because it is in the UK.

My canned beer of choice is generally going to be Punk IPA. Tasty for what it is and substantially better than any of the cat-pee 'market leaders'. If it is a regular bottle - that would be Corona... inoffensive and drinkable.

I've just realised I have a concerning number of photos of beer!

Good pick on Wainwright sir.
Proud local connection as well as the brewery (my blood is made of Thwaites).
I was raised by a "maiden aunt", she looked after me after school, before mum getting home.
She was my go to adult on all matters, and every Sunday round the year, she walked with Wainwright with the Blackburn Ramblers.
I raise a glass to good Aunty Lily every time I sup the stuff.
Not had a pint of it since Thursday.
