The Finest Ale

Equally you won't be surprised to hear that my go to canned beer of choice is Goose Island IPA. 🪿
Goose Island is an acceptable choice!

Years ago we ordered a box Goose Island online before it hit the shelves here. I loved being all smug thinking we had something unusual, until the following month the launched in the UK and were everywhere at less than half the price we paid. It was annoying. Still, it is a good drink.

Has anyone tried this baby. Tried it as a gimmick but turns out it’s really really nice IMG_0068.jpeg
I believe it is Punk IPA re-packaged. The story behind it was that Aldi done the whole thing where they made a near-identical product to Punk, so instead of going down the route of suing Aldi (as many would), Brewdog made the Ald IPA as a bit of a tounge-in-cheek marketing response. Aldi, being Aldi decided to pick up this product and its meant to be a pretty good seller for Brewdog.

It's a great example of how to respond to brand-intrusion and is a bit of a marketing masterclass from Brewdog [and Aldi to a lesser extent]. It certainly trounces M&S and the Cuthbert issue.

They still manufacture and sell the Anti Establishment IPA though.

The story you refer to can be found here too, with the original tweets in tact: https://bacchanalian.co.uk/aldi-ipa-vs-punk/

I've literally just come from Aldi looking at the beers for dinner tonight (went for wine, unfortunately). It's strange that there seems to be fewer choices down here compared to north-of-the-border.

It was a great piece of social media marketing though. It's amazing how some companies seem to knock it out the park and others really, really fail. Not mentioning a certain seaside amusement theme park.

We've noticed that Aldi's beer selection generally has shrunk over the past 12 months or so. It would suggest that they're having purchasing problems, or shrinking the range to what sells.

Goose Island did an Aldi collaboration too with Goose On The Loose, an Indian Pale Lager. Needless to say I was a big fan. Sadly I've drunk it all and they don't appear to brew it anymore.

Picked up a couple of cans from ASDA

I had a can of Cat Amongst from Tooth and Claw last night. Very nice, gets just the right notes.

Also had a Satin Stout from Seven Brothers (Sorry Seven Bro7hers) brewery which was a nice generic stout.
Unfortunately most of Asdas craft range is pretty terrible, but that tooth and claw stands out as one of the best supermarket beers.

Well that makes sense as to why it tastes so good

I get the thread title is the Finest ale...

But I'm currently drinking a Tiny Rebel Fruit Smoothie IPA and it's not great.

Going to have to go hunting for more beer tomorrow...

I’ve tried that one, and yes it’s not a nice drink at all

Nothing worse than buying beer then not wanting to actually drink it because of the taste.
My last one was in Stockton on Tees back around 1983.
Proud to say I have managed to get to the bottom of every pint since.
Vaux beer was not to my taste.

I hate that, getting several different beers and ones a minger  Just have to drink it faster lol
