The I Feel Happy Topic!

After over 10,000 words and a whole summer of literature reviewing, data wrangling, model building and results compilation, I’ve today submitted my MSc dissertation! I’m nervous to see how it’s received, but I’m happy I’ve tried the best I could have on it, and given the circumstances, I’m reasonably pleased with the final product!

It’s been a tough project at points, but it’s also been a really interesting one too, and I’ve learned a lot! It feels quite bittersweet knowing that this is the last thing I will ever submit as a full-time student after 18 years of schooling in various guises, but it is good to have it done, if nothing else.
Congratulations @Matt N. If your writing up phase looked anything like mine for my MA Dissertation I am sure you are hugely relieved!

I tried to write the report up progressively as I went along, so the actual write up wasn’t too bad.

But the dataset I was given was really, really challenging to work with compared to anything else I’d ever done, and my corporate sponsor (officially speaking, I did my dissertation with a corporate sponsor, but it was mainly self-guided, with 1 or 2 meetings with them, at my instigation, during the entire process) gave such incredibly vague direction that it was hard to know whether I was going the right way at times!

So I’m definitely glad to be leaving the less than ideal dataset and very vague direction behind, if nothing else!

I've just purchased tickets for a showing of October 2025's limited Picturehouse re-release of one of my favourite films (Perfect Blue). I'm extremely excited. 💗

Oh nice one. I love Satoshi Kon's works, I think I might need to make a trip out to see it myself. I would love to see all of his movies on the big screen, especially Paprika.

As it is a Sunday, I am a Golden Goose and have become rather marinated, whilst cooking and listening to Iggy Pop on BBC Radio 6 Music.

The brilliant sunshine and last bursts of heat from the warmer months are also lifting my spirits, after a rather few difficult months.

Went out for a walk on Sunday as I usually try to do each day (Saturdays excepted, but I'm often out and about a bit more on Saturdays anyway). Was just coming up to Spoons, and I thought I recognised someone standing outside as an old colleague from Sainsbury's. Turns out it was, and they were so happy to see me! Really made my day, and the interaction helped lift me up after a bit of a rough week.

The youtuber who inspired me to start my own Lego channel, all but told me to clone his latest build in to my town tonight, as a "franchise".

Well smeg, now I guess I have to.

(I know this may be really sad, but I work with world famous stars on a daily basis (and have done for a quarter century), and don't bat an eyelid. But a minor online interaction with someone I actually respect has got me squeeing like a schoolgirl. You have my permission to slap me when we next meet.)
