Of course - that's why my totally un-edited post says demolition...Do you mean demolition?

Safe to say no one here seems too upset about the prospect of no more TWODW
Most of us said it was a bizarre choice and too niche of a theme when it first got announced years ago to be fair.
Hopefully the news this week will have ramped up plans for its successor.

More like:Safe to say no one here seems too upset about the prospect of no more TWODW
Same reaction I had when Duel's days were numbered.

I don't think the Quentin Blake "aesthetic" translates very well to a themed experience, and I find it especially nasty on Naughty Nan: The Ride. I try not to be too harsh on the park, but the less I say about that area of the park, the better. I remember when the ride got announced someone here cynically joked about how the experience would involve trundling past cardboard cutouts, wasn't really that far away from what we got in certain scenes.

I feel they wasted that extra year with the area been delayed to 2021.
I think Merlin really need to sell Alton Towers as even 10 years since the Smiler crash the park is still suffering from any big investment since the Wickerman. (I know they had Nemesis 2.0) Like Bluely gonna be an extra coaster but really instead of adding more attractions that the park badly needs and removing rides to be replaced with a new rides.
For me this area hasn’t been any good since the land of make believe.

I think it was a nice concept (Walliams’ books are/were undeniably popular, and I don’t agree that the theme was “too niche”), and Gangsta Granny is fun enough, but they overall never really did the theme justice.
I know it wasn’t a high budget retheme, but at very least, they could have reopened the 4D Cinema, rethemed the Driving School and done a little bit more theming-wise. That would have at least made it roughly on par with Cloud Cuckoo Land in 2009, which wouldn’t have been too bad.
At this point, though, I think it’s time to just demolish and start again. That area is past its sell by date in terms of rethemes, I feel.

I don't believe the solution to an area themed around a problematic author is to retheme it to another problematic author. They should of really made it a Roald Dahl area if they wanted an IP.
With increased tension around anti-Semitism being at a modern lifetime high, for most of the population, it would be reputational suicide for Alton Towers to retheme to Roald Dahl.
I don't believe you can say that the park hasn't had "any big investment" and then immediately discount a significantly large big investment.I think Merlin really need to sell Alton Towers as even 10 years since the Smiler crash the park is still suffering from any big investment since the Wickerman. Well, I suppose you can, but it's a bit silly.

That area has always had an IP in it ever since Cred Street Days heck even the Land of Make Believe had Sonic as an IP in Toyland
I’d imagine they’d prefer to move away from controversial figures.

I think this is the most likely direction. Remove the “world of David Walliams” branding but keep the Gangsta Granny ride, then start planning 2027/28.I could see Gangsta Granny remaining open next season, with a quiet drop of the area's name, as plans are quietly expedited for replacement

I’m not sure I necessarily agree with this.I don't believe the solution to an area themed around a problematic author is to retheme it to another problematic author.

Roald Dahl’s books may be old now, but I’d argue that they are still iconic and widely read. I don’t think a Dahl theme would have been “reputational suicide” myself; I feel that most people still view him as an iconic author. I don’t think “most of the population” would be repelled by the author’s alleged anti-Semitic views.
Like when people talk about JK Rowling’s controversial views affecting the popularity of Harry Potter, I do feel that people who would care strongly enough about this to boycott are a particularly vocal minority rather than a representation of the wider populace at large. If Dahl had committed a crime or had accusations against him like Walliams, this would of course be slightly different, but I don’t think a lot of people would boycott him purely based on views, which may have been a mark of the era in which he was alive as much as anything.
Or maybe I’m just out of touch!
