The World of David Walliams: General Discussion

Ah thanks for the clarification. I was just looking since this David Walliams scandal (which he denies and there are no current charges against him) and subsequently being dropped by his publisher and the Waterstones children book festival, I was wondering what might be happening to the IP at Towers. If there is any wrongdoing found it could be a PR disaster for them

I’d check the last few ten’s of pages of this thread, precisely that has been discussed a huge amount lol

Charlie's problem was that it was replacing a much beloved (albeit a little dated) attraction in Toyland Tours which meant it had a high bar to hit which it never was going to hit and it wasn't helped that Charlie was hit by budget cuts making it worse than it should have been.

The fact that afterwards we got something worse in the Dungeons is honestly amazing how much they keep screwing up badly is something. If they are going to retheme TWODW, now is the time to put that building to good use gutting it all out and put a proper dark ride in there.
That ride was completely lifeless after all the fun and movement of Toyland Tours. All the energy was just sucked out of it. That part of the park has never been massively popular. They need more attractions around it, Toyland Tours was a fantastic dark ride but it was always out of the way....

I remember the year it opened... It had ques bigger then nemesis!

but it was always out of the way....

Everything is out the way at Alton Towers, that doesn't stop people finding desired attractions to the point that 2 hour queues form. I think it speaks more to a rides popularity than the location if people aren't going there. You can bet your bottom dollar people will head there if Horizon materialises and delivers, even more so if it's the parks only weather resistant coaster.

Didn't the area of World of David get nicknamed the area where rides go to die many flat rides met there final season in this area. It's location and poor marketing of said area whatever the theme of the area has led it to be quieter then other areas

Regarding the location, when we had Beast and Mouse there it was pretty busy and when they left, the area never had quite the same again post 1992 even with Toyland Tours.

As some may hate the idea of the park being top heavy on coasters which I agree with to a extent, they do bring in the crowds and a major coaster in that area has been something it has been crying out for years for and just maybe the area may never be a dead area of the park.

4 Man Bob was also back there as well and Mini Apple was in the area for a bit. A rollercoaster will generally attract more crowds then any other ride although depending on circumstance a dark ride can attract more crowds

When it was Cloud Cuckoo Land with Ice Age, Charlie, Toadsrool, the cafe, driving school etc that area used to be rammed. As usual they manage to make somewhere worse than it was before and TWODW is now just a dead zone once again. One crappy shop and no food outlet.

The corner cafe (forgot it's real name) used to be a lovely place to eat and drink and the rest of the area used to have a really nice atmosphere..

Sorry, disagree.
As already stated, it was a popular part of the park when it had a popular ride...it was also very close to the biggest food place on the park!
When McD's was there, it had a very large numbers of punters in the area.
So, busy through lunch at least!

Aye, that end of Cred Street was busy (although Toyland Tours was a bit of a capacity monster so it was rare to wait more than a few mins even at lunch), but other than showtimes the rest of the street was quite dead in the early 00s.

Early Cloud Cuckoo Land was probably when the whole area felt at its healthiest to me, though I'm sure Talbot Street was busier in the Coaster Corner era.
