Thorpe Park: General Discussion

They didn’t actually install any trim brakes in the trim brackets exiting the Immelmann, did they? I thought they were only installing trims there if it oversped during testing.

Bits of that definitely looked slow, but as others have said, it was the first test run and the chain lift ran at an absolute crawl. It’s probably not the warmest, clearest day either; if it’s windy or cold, which wouldn’t be a surprise given yesterday’s weather, that could easily have affected things.

I thought some elements, particularly the first drop, Immelmann and entry into the outer bank, actually looked pretty promising given the circumstances!

It’ll almost definitely speed up, though. Based on how fast the lift hills on the likes of DC Rivals are, I imagine that the lift will be far faster during regular operation, and you only have to remember how similarly slow Nemesis Reborn went during its first test back in January compared to how it runs now.

I think there’s a balance to be struck when it comes to hangtime. A bit of hangtime from not flying through the elements ridiculously fast can be really nice, but I think that there is definitely such a thing as too slow or too much hangtime. There is for me, anyway.

It seemed to get to the top of the immelmann with quite some speed, but it actually crested the top of it and down the other side quite slow. This indicates to me that it was likely temperature and friction related as it was already slowing down significantly before it even reached the outer bank. It seemed to haul over the airtime hill into the brakes, but that could be because it wasn't trimmed much in the splashdown.

Its still going to be a top 3 UK coaster for sure as we aren't blessed with too many world class ones. Definitely going to be Thorpe's standout now I'd imagine taking over from Stealth/Swarm.

What slightly disappointed me way back when the final lay out was confirmed is that there are hyper coasters that are 25/30years old that have better layouts than this does. That's a missed opportunity in my eyes.

But overall still looks a very solid ride.

Also if we get this opening and have Project Horizon and Universal GB confirmed next year then we aren't doing too bad are we? 😁

The Big One opened same year as Nemmy. That wasn't as good. In fact for me it wasn't even close and I rode both opening year.

Being the tallest doesn't mean it's going to be the best.

I do think it's going to be right up there in the conversation though as quite frankly we don't have too many quality coasters.

I wasn’t referring to its height I was referring to the unique elements that we haven’t seen in this country before. Height doesn’t mean anything. Nemesis is in a pit below ground level most the time and it still absolutely obliterates any of the current 5 Thorpe coasters in terms of quality
 
Just the queue time to worry about now. 😬
I'm there the same weekend as the meet up. Think I'll do all other rides Saturday and try to do last ride on this, then wake up Sunday in shark cabin and leg it to Hyperia for opening

Well it will have a lower throughput than Nemesis and that reached 4 1/2 hours so I imagine Hyperia will be 5+
