Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Went to the park last Thursday after grabbing an overnight stay deal on Black Friday for Wednesday (when the park was originally meant to be closed), breakfast included, plus unlimited FastTrack all day (including Hyperia) for just £72 total (£36 per person). I never usually stay over, but that price for unlimited FastTrack made it an absolute no-brainer.

I was pretty much on Hyperia for most of the day, and managed over 30 rides on it, as well as a couple of other rides too. Saw it testing before 9am and it was open for 10. Should be standard but nice to see they’re making the effort to get it running on time this season - it’s a big improvement over last year’s late starts.

As the day went on and the ride warmed up, I did notice it started to get a little jolty/rattly from around row 4/5. Might be down to the different wheel compounds they’re using, but honestly it wasn’t anything major and didn’t really take away from the ride experience.

Operations were absolutely flawless all day, the team were smashing the trains out and I didn't see it stack once, trains were even dispatched before the other hit the break run which I hadn't seen before.

There was a lot of people who had the same deal also lapping Hyperia, and with RAP usage on top, the main queue for Hyperia definitely took a hit. Bit of a problem when RAP and FastTrack is allocated for the whole park but people are just using it on Hyperia.

Since I was staying over, I was actually there for park opening for once (normally I don’t bother till the afternoon. I hate how they keep all the gates closed until 10am. Other parks like Chessington and Towers let you in the park earlier, not sure why this one can’t do the same. Back in the day, they used to open the gates earlier (around half 9) and if rides were ready, you’d open them before opening. Much better procedure than having a bottleneck and lots of people running in my opinion. This was on a quiet day too, can’t imagine what this is like on peak days.

Shame not to get on Stealth again, still not been on it this season yet. Didn't see any visible work going on last week but hopefully the issues will get sorted soon.

Rumba Rapids was testing and there seemed to be a lot of staff over there training, the ride availability page shows this will be open on late May now.

Vortex is running really well, and has done for the last few seasons. It still has its smoke machine from Fright Nights too, doesn’t have much effect without it being dark and the lighting etc but still nice to see.

Nemesis, someone correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure the bass cannons have been turned off completely now, and the new speakers that they are using, the big bulky square ones in my personal opinion look awful and sound awful too!

The Swarm speakers in the station are so so loud that to me personally it’s coming across as distorted.

I really don’t like the speakers Thorpe are using, I’d much prefer if they had the ones Alton are now using.

But again, it’s pretty obvious whoever was in charge of this has either been let go or that department has now gone all together. These seem like such little fixes aswell and fine tuning.

The bass cannons in the Nemesis station have been off for a long long time.

But I completely agree, the new(ish) speakers throughout the park are no where near as good as the old bose ones they had which is a big shame. Nemesis and Colossus stations in particular sound nowhere near as good as they used to.

That stupid announcement that plays before the Nemesis dispatch is annoying too.

I believe the team that rolled out all the new speakers when the Bose ones got replaced, back in 2016/17 got let go yes. So no idea who is in charge of all that now.

The saw speaker and Billy as you leave the station has been like that a few years now... it's annoying... also there was another Billy in the station as you hit the loading bay where all the pigeons roam.. he has gone..

I echo most of the trip review after we had a 2 day visit last week, yet couldn't help laughing at £7 for a single donut at some outlets. I remain utterly shocked people pay this

I don’t really get why Thorpe suddenly decided to just replace all their speakers across the whole park with those awful cheap looking square speakers. Especially when as far as I’m aware most of the old Bose ones worked perfectly fine. I understand replacing things when they are broke or you doing a retheme but then to just replace them all. The sound quality is awful in a lot of places now.

You then have hyperia which seem to use 3 or four different type of speakers across its area and queue line which I also find baffling.

Honestly, I was looking at the speakers in Nemesis station and those square bulky ones look and sound absolutely awful. They really just have had a good deal on them or they were dirt cheaper. Either way they’re awful!

Don't think it's been mentioned yet but apparently Hyperia has had new wheels fitted to increase the speed and prevent it from valleying again.

Drove past Tuesday morning and saw it flying over the outer bank with an empty train, so it must be working well.
That would make sense as I went on it today and it was really flying. It also didn't feel as smooth as I remember it from September, with a few jolts on all 3 rides I had. Not rough at all, just not glass smooth. It was great fun again.

Less fun for the people who got stuck at the top of the lift hill for around 20 minutes at the end of the day. (There were quite a few tears, I felt really bad for them) I was really impressed that they persevered in getting it fixed even though it took nearly an hour to get running again, by which point it was nearly 6pm. They could easily have turfed us out of the queue.

Agreed — there's definitely a noticeable jolt from row 4 or 5 onwards, especially as the day goes on and it warms up

Have they swapped out the Canadian wheels (South Park reference!). Does it mean that the "stall" dive loop is now faster??
