Thorpe Park: General Discussion

From Theme Park Guide Facebook, the food outlets have new signage with various info, including if they take card payments, accept the AP discount, etc.

A great move this!

I appreciate the concept here... but I have some reservations about how it's been implemented.

What do they mean that the Camden Junction Bar has no Veggie or Vegan options? I know that not all drinks are vegan, but it is surely almost impossible for a bar to not have something available that meet these standards. Much the same with Halal.

Equally, I find it surprising that Burger King has no Veggie or Vegan options, that also seems unlikely. And slightly bizarrely, the sign for the Burger King as well as Spice Kitchen doesn't match the info given for those units on the Thorpe Park website

Also, in this day and age, given they're offering a QR code, presumably to more info on each unit, why are the ingredients and allergens not available via this means? It is sensible to advise people with allergies to inform staff regarding this, but it seems like unnecessary gate-keeping to prevent people from being able to access this information so they can make informed decisions via the park's website.

Whilst, this definitely feels like the sort of thing that Merlin should be doing across it parks, you have thought they'd have taken the opportunity to firstly get their house in order, and then produce signs that are accurate?

On Saw, at least, I remember seeing one of those height stick things like you see in doctors' surgeries (I'm assuming this is what you mean by portable stick?), so that would be flat ground.
Always seen fixed metal sticks (you can't argue with them!) And yes, you do shrink a bit over the day, so if you're borderline do the rides you want at the start of the day. Every time I've seen, ride hosts really want you to be tall enough - but they won't fudge it.

Sorry follow up question but guessing much like AT there are no longer hosts at ride entrances to measure?

Perhaps Hyperia is an exception? There was when I went but that was last year with all the chaos.

Last time I was there (end of last season), the host at the queue sorting point just before station was checking measures with the pole. Frustrating I imagine, as it’s possible to queue for a couple of hours and be turned away.
Saw one person sent away, but from RAP queue so hadn’t been a long wait.

BK definitely has a vegan society approved vegan burger and chips meal normally. The ones at Thorpe did them last year (I've not checked this year) but for some reason the app has never shown this correctly. I emailed customer services to let them know last year, and they said they'd get it fixed. Perhaps they've not managed to get round to it in the last 12 months or so...

As I mentioned before some are not certified because whilst the product itself is vegan, they share grills with meat products. Doesn’t bother me personally but I know it does for others:

  • How come the Plant-Based Whopper® isn't certified by the Vegan Society®?

The Plant-Based Whopper® is plant-based, however it is cooked on the same broiler as our original Whopper® to delivery the same unique flame-grilled taste and therefore the product not certified by the Vegan Society®.

I think the menu varies by location so some don’t offer the “true” vegan option.

As @Alix mentioned:

The Vegan Royale is certified by the Vegan society, and is a "true" vegan option.

The fries, no matter the Burger King restaurant, are always Vegan Society certified in the UK. All fries are fried in a dedicated fryer, without animal products.

Edit: In addition, The Ultimate Bean Burger is also Vegan Society approved, if you remove the cheese slice.

To paraphrase : "Our plant based Whopper is cooked in meat fat". Ooooh-kayyyyy.

Hyperia hasn’t opened so far today due to wind. Seems like they’ve lowered the threshold. They’ve also removed the previously listed threshold from the app.
Was at the park today. They sent round train with water dummies at 9:45am as I saw it while getting out of the car. It didn't open at 10 and at 11 I did see the trains stacked with the water dummies in as I was going around on Colossus. By 12 they were off the tracks in the maintenance shed so I knew it was done for the day.

When I spoke to the staff member at Guest Services asking about the Return Guarantee (as it was applied today) she did say it was wind speed related which is why it was closed. There is a sensor on the top of the lift hill which they use.

She was very open and honest and talked about what was going on with Stealth when I asked her how long they think it will be down for as we are going to go back at the beginning of June. Her response was that they are still waiting for a part to come in from Intamin for it.

Yes was also at Thorpe Parl today, booked hotel for last night and travelled down with my 12 year old. Arrived at site at 4.50 he hoped to catch the last hour with having Platinam passes. We got through security no probs, ran to toilet then went to scan in. The joy of a boy then pulled my lad back and told him we couldn’t as the last entry was 5pm. Looked at my phone and it was 5.02. I tried to explain that we had just travelled 3hrs 15 from Stoke and had just ran the toilets before entering. Sorry not entry.

Returned today for the shambles of ride availability. Arrived early for 9.15 to experience the standard stamped when the gates open at 10. Went to Hyperia, not available. Went to Nemisis, not available, got on Swarm, most other rides closed. Walked over to Saw, which then broke down. 3hrs later with 2 rides done and 7 still closed we left and drove the 3+ hrs back. Great couple of days

we’ve had passes for years, shame they have a picture on them!!!

I went Thorpe today and had a mixed day.

I stay well clear of hyperia first thing as it never opens on time and if it does it usually breaks after sending one train.

So within 10 mins we had been on colossus and Saw.

Ride availability was up and down all day, with Inferno, Saw and Colossus going to open and closed all day on the app, same applied to the likes of quantum and vortex.

The park didn’t actually feel very busy, paths were fairly empty and so were the shops and restaurants, but having hyperia and stealth down did make the other coasters busier than they would have been.

In the end I had a decent day, got on all the (open) coasters at least one and did the majority of the flat rides And even some totally random rides I wouldn’t usually do like Depth charge and the tea cups.

They have clearly changed the limit for hyperia to run now, as it was windy but certainly not too bad and not for the whole day. I guess it got to a point in the day they just decided to leave it and call it a day. Fairly early in the day both trains had been moved into the maintenance shed and the music all turned off, so guess they didn’t want to open it.
