Thorpe Park: General Discussion

I haven't attempted to get on Colossus in about 10 years so can't fully comment on how it's riding.

Could it be that it just needs new trains?

Stealth seems to be clinging on at the moment. Was down until about 3pm yesterday and then eventually opened on one train.
 
The trains are very small though. I don’t think anyone would particularly mind if Colossus were to leave, but I’d hope it would still be themed to Lost City, as the landscaping is very nice. Imagine a multi-launch through the jungle! Wouldn’t that be fun?
That sounds like a good idea, although it may be constrained by the existing landscaping as it was designed exclusively for Colossus.

Most Intamin trains of the era weren't great and I'm not sure you'd get clearance with the new trains.
 
I used to have Colossus/SAW down as my roughest coaster experiences, then I rode Viking at Energylandia and required weeks of chiropractor care following 😂
After doing Goudurix, Viking and Turbo (Brighton Pier) - Colossus and Saw are not too bad for me.

Colossus and Saw for me rank above a whole load of family coasters and then it goes onto Viking, Euro Coaster, Goudurix, Infusion, Skyways (Clarence Pier) followed lastly by a very well deserved bottom ranking for Turbo.

The moral of this story is if you think Colossus and Saw are rough, Turbo is another level. I thought I was gonna get concussion from that thing 🤕
 
Hero was by no means comfortable, and I did find the cars and general setup absolutely grotesque, but it wasn’t quite as rough as I anticipated.

Infusion, on the other hand… wow, that thing is a headbasher!

To steer things back to Thorpe Park: I completely agree on Hyperia’s splashdown @LF22. It had such promise as an idea, but has been a complete damp squib in terms of execution; even when it worked, it was nigh on pointless as it was hidden behind a 7ft fence!

Incidentally; what were operations and dispatches like, if you don’t mind me asking?

Hyperia broke down when we were in the queue. Started with the back soon message then it changed to say they wouldn’t be able to fix it imminently so to go and experience their other rides. We waited it out and it worked in our favour as it reopened after about 20/30 mins and we had been able to move forward a lot due to people giving up.

Dispatches were good - I assume they are only allowed one train out at a time on Hyperia - the majority of the time the train came out of the station as soon as the other train got back.

Stealth was open in the morning - we managed to walk on but then closed for hours. They did open it again later in the day. Tidal wave was also up and down.

Last Sunday they were dispatching trains on Hyperia as soon as one of them cleared the splashdown trim. This allowed them to attain roughly 920 pph, with an average dispatch time of around 78 seconds, which is something I haven't seen them achieve since the re-opening day last year.
 
The ride can apparently do 55 dispatches an hour (1,100pph), as this was supposedly achieved when an American enthusiast group hired the ride out for ERT a couple of months back. The group leader claimed that this was a record throughput for the ride.

I wouldn’t have expected this to be possible, but the planning application did say that the throughput was 1,050pph, so maybe I’m wrong? Well, I clearly am wrong if 55 dispatches per hour was attained during this ERT session as the group leader claimed over on CoasterForce.

To be fair, staff are probably on their A game when the thing is rented out, and besides, I imagine everyone there was quite well versed in how coasters work, and (as stupid as it seems) know how to get their arses in the seats - quick. At least, they are probably a lot better at it than Thorpe's usual fickle clientele, as we like to say here.

I know it’s a bit late to do anything about it, but the lack of a drive tyre between the station and final brake run is agonising. You are forced to watch it roll into the station at the speed of a dehydrated snail, and then they play the over the top disco lights like that was the coolest thing you’ll ever see in your measly, pathetic life.

Looks. Slow.
 
Rumba Rapids didn't open at all when I was at the park last Sunday and according to queue-times.com didn't open on Monday either. Honestly really not sure what the point of it is anymore, it's starting to feel like a complete white elephant. Probably time to get rid and put something new in its place.
 
It was down a lot when we were there. We were really disappointed when we went on. I think we only got splashed once! Surely a park like Thorpe with an older target audience can make it better than that!
 
Wouldn't surprise me if it does go, and I don't really mind its quite easily one of my least favorite rapids. Would be a shame to see it go without a replacement though which would be the most likely option.

If they have to make operational cuts i'd rather than close Rumba than make cuts in other areas (cuts to opening hours or staggered openings etc)
 
It's a shame rumba isn't it's former self. While it's an old system it did offer a grand ride experience that want a coaster. It does feel as if it's in an area of the park that's different and secluded. It's a family experience and gives a break between flats and coasters.

It would be nice to see some other fun family attraction to replace it and make use of the thick landscape.

Most rides at thorpe you can see the layout. With rapids you are actually taken away and don't truly know the layout untill your on the ride.

I get 1st is too early. Lots don't go back till the week after... That final week is always manic.
