Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Oh dear, while I could go on Nemesis Inferno and Walking Dead The Ride, Swarm was a little too tight for me (and like Cyclonator at Paultons) proved a buzzkill for the rest of the day, and while I could fit in the SAW and Hyperia test seats I was a 1 or 2 mm away from turning their red lights green. I think I could've fitted on the actual rides, but I didn't want to push my luck.

I need to lose several inches off my waist and thighs, lose enough to fit more confidently and safely on proper thrill rides. Wake up call.

But at least I got a few flatrides and my first inverted 'coaster in decades (and two new credits). And it was interesting to see Thorpe Park decades later and changed beyond recognition from the late 80s/early 90s....

And am i stupid or is it impossible to get off the ride if your 6ft plus
Those trains are tight, extremely tight in fact.

I’m only 5’10”, so not even particularly tall, and I have to properly duck down to cross the car and get in. It’s a very tight squeeze in the back for me to get through. I don’t think it’s so bad once you’re seated, but even then, my legs only just fit behind the seat in front if sat in the back of the car, and I haven’t exactly got absurdly long legs. I’ve sat next to slightly taller folks on it before, and they’ve had to do a very awkward straddling pose with their legs to get them to fit in the back of the train.

On the extreme end of the spectrum, my father is 6’6” and physically can’t ride Colossus even in the roomier front of the car (him and his 35” inside leg have never even entertained trying the back of the car!). It’s one of only a small number of rides where the clearance in the OTSR was too small for his torso to be secured; from memory, I think the only other ride he’s ever been rejected from for a similar reason was Drenched (then Hydro) at Oakwood (also an Intamin, funnily enough!).

I don’t hate Colossus nearly as much as I used to, but those trains definitely are not great!

Hi all, might be the wrong thread but is it worth staying in the shark cabins at thorpe? Thinking of staying at fright nights and doesn't seem too bad with tickets, parking etc included.

It’s small, like really small. Also bear in mind your bags will be searched on entry in view of everyone and you cannot take any alcohol in at all, even if you just wanted a drink in your room.

If you are ok with the above and find a good price then go for it. As somewhere to sleep between long days on Fright Nights it’s probably an ok choice.

It’s not for me, but I can see why it may appeal in some circumstances.

I've just read a person was stuck on Hyperia in the station for over 3hrs today, they had to evacuate the second train on the break run and there were ambulances eventually in attendance. Hopefully they're okay; the speculative discussion from people at the park seem to suggest it was rider misadventure rather than anything ride/operations related.

The ride availability page has been updated to show that Ghost Train will be closed on various off peak days throughout September

With Rumba closing earlier than ever and now this, it definitely seems like theres been cuts made to operational budgets sadly.

Would rather see them do this though than make cuts to opening hours.

I am not sure exactly how this works, but would it be cuts to the operating budget? Or budgeting their budget to spread it out better for the upcoming Fright Nights, which no doubt requires a fair bit of some sort of budget to put on in the first place.

I am not sure if the operating budget and the budget for Fright Nights are linked, in some aspects I would imagine they are, especially on the operating costs for things such as rides. So to me, just on face value, this looks like they are potentially slicing off the fat in some areas of the park, so they can fatten up other areas financially speaking, such as, Fright Nights, using a pre existing and pre determined budget. The time of year would certainly support this. In reality though, I have no idea how the budgets work properly. I am more a mechanical than financial person.

Who knows, it is interesting to think about though.
