Thorpe Park: General Discussion

I'm really not quite sure what you're trying to get at with this post, but I am trembling with anticipation to learn the identity of this mysterious third Intamin Accelerator Coaster in the UK.
Thought you were referring to Hydraulic Launches being one of a kind when UK has 3 Rita, Velocity and Stealth not just speaking of Intamin Accelerators

I was responding to a video about Intamin retrofitting their Accelerator Coasters (of which there are two in the UK) with LSMs, but regardless you still haven't explained the point of your post.

Intamin Accelerator Coasters, and indeed Hydraulic Launch Coasters as a whole, are a depleting model type. You claimed that there are 11 left. RCDB claims that there are 6,681 operating roller coasters in the world. Hydraulic Launch Coasters account for approximately 0.165% of the coaster population.

What was your point, exactly?

My point being Stealth isn't one of a kind in the UK nor Europe for being a hydraulic launch coaster

There may be others, but I would make the argument that they’re an increasingly rare breed that are getting rarer.

Not to mention that Stealth is the fastest accelerating example that remains in operation. There isn’t another launch out there with that level of punch! Yes, you could say that Rita and Velocity are also hydraulic launch coasters, but rides like Stealth that launch that quickly and to that height are hardly two-a-penny, and I’d argue that Velocity in particular is not particularly comparable beyond the technology being the same at a high level.

Comparing Stealth to Velocity because they both employ hydraulic launches is like comparing Ice Breaker or Big Bear Mountain to Falcon’s Flight or Red Force because they all employ LSM launches. The technology may be the same at a high level, but the scale and practical implementation just aren’t comparable.

Rita is a fairer comparison, but even still, I do think Stealth is a level above Rita in terms of the raw power of its launch.

No one said it was one of a kind. I certainly never said it was one of a kind.

I said it was increasingly becoming one of a kind, due to the closure of the ride type around the world.
I don’t think you can increase or decrease how one-of-a-kind you are? It’s like being unique, you either are or you’re not.

Friday night pedantry. I’ll go to bed.

To keep on topic, Stealth is pretty good, 7.5/10. Would ride again

If I’m being pedantic, I think you can. If something was once common, but is becoming less common, I would argue that it is increasingly becoming one of a kind. Or at very least, becoming increasingly unique among the operating landscape.

I do absolutely love Stealth, and would be sad to see it go!

It would be a shame to lose it (to enthusiasts at least) but Merlin will surely prioritise extending the rides life and improving reliability if it’s financially viable rather than clinging onto a legacy technology that the vast majority of people have no awareness of.

It is gramatically correct to describe something as "becoming increasingly one of a kind".

Whilst you can't be more than one of a kind, you can become one of a kind, which stands to reason that you can increasingly become one of a kind.

I had intended to make a witty retort, claiming this to be "the most Merlin thing ever", but there is a serious point to consider here.

Whilst I agree that the casual visitor will be unaware of the underlying technology behind the ride, and that Merlin ordinarily wouldn't care about preserving it for the sake of the tech alone, Stealth is the world's fastest accelerating coaster. A title I'm sure Merlin would be very reluctant to resign.

Is this something they promote considering it only became the case last year after the closure of the previous record holder in Japan?

If not… “New for 2026!!”

Stealth is increasingly becoming one of a kind, it remains the fastest accelerating coaster in the world.

I would hope that Thorpe Park, and Merlin, would try all they can to keep it as a hydraulic launch for as long as they reasonably can.

Someone from Thorpe needs to apply to GWR as it still hasn't been updated, and so isn't official yet.

I wouldn't advise getting Great Western Railway involved. Stealth's service reliability this past season has been shocking enough as it is.
