TowersStreet Planet Coaster Speed Build Contest 2024/25: Winners Declared (contest ended 22nd March)

Hi Matt, would I be able to get an extension for this week? Really hoping to be able to get a bonus round submission in as I haven't been able to participate much recently.

So....I have a reputation to hold up with certain interesting ideas on this open round. Behold NemeGIB Rebound.
We were all caught up on replace or rebuild Nemesis, so why not both at the same time?

Yes this took far too long. Yes I am the worst monster ever to exist.

Great submission @Poisson! Nemesis as a Giant Inverted Boomerang is possibly your most unique Bonus Round submission yet, in my view, and I think it works well!
Hi Matt, would I be able to get an extension for this week? Really hoping to be able to get a bonus round submission in as I haven't been able to participate much recently.
Yes, that’s absolutely fine. I’ll extend until you and @Matt.GC (as he requested an extension earlier) are both able to get submissions in.

I'll be needing an extension too Have made something but it's a bit silly so will have a final submission by tomorrow evening.

OK folks; that's the end of Week 16! Let's get into Week 17, shall we?

The Weekly Digest will be a short one tonight, so I'll cover the main matter of the Round 15 results...

Great round, everybody!

Bonus Round voting is not yet available due to the round having been extended until a few additional participants can get submissions in, and as this is the last week of the contest before the end, there is no new round to build for this week either. As such, I think that just about does it for the Week 17 Weekly Digest!

Keep your eyes peeled for Bonus Round voting, folks!

Wow @RicketyCricket; that's a great submission! Your ride is really long, with some great airtime and inversions and some absolutely huge drops!

For everyone else, I'm thinking I might extend the Bonus Round building deadline up to Friday 14th March 2025 at 11:45pm for both those who have requested an extension and anyone else who may want to submit a submission in this round and then run Bonus Round voting from 15th-21st March, extending things by a further week.

Remember, folks; this is your last chance to shine in this contest, and it's worth double the points of any previous round!

Just as a reminder to everyone; if you’d like to compete in the Bonus Round, you have 2 days left to submit a submission. We’re now over halfway through Week 17; the extended Bonus Round deadline is Friday 14th March 2025 at 11:45pm. If you’d like this to be extended further, please tell me; if you do not ask me for an extension either in this thread or via PM, I will assume that you do not want to compete in this round and move on after the posted deadline.

Remember, folks; this is the final round of the contest, it’s worth double the points of any other round, and it’s the only round where you can quite literally build whatever you want, so I’d strongly encourage you to submit for this round if you haven’t already!

Cool submission @tactic! Your ride has some fun inversions and nice bits of airtime!

For anyone else who may wish to submit something for the Bonus Round; just remember that one day remains. If you do not request an extension before tomorrow at 11:45pm, I will assume that you are happy to forfeit this round and move on.

Week 18 Weekly Digest (15th-21st March 2025)
It's the final week of the contest, folks! I've only really got one thing to cover this week, so let's get straight into it...
Bonus Round Voting
OK, everyone. The Bonus Round submissions are in, so the voting stage can now begin!

Please vote for your Bonus Round favourites via this Google Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1...IvqTLdo_9ZbrqifXB9YbZH2kA/viewform?usp=dialog

Let me just recap a few things about voting, if you need a reminder:
  • If you're not clear on how I'd like you to vote; please pick your top 5 track layouts and rank them in order of preference from #1 to #5. Therefore, if you give a player a particular ranking, the points allocated are as follows; #1 ranking = 5pts, #2 ranking = 4pts, #3 ranking = 3pts, #4 ranking = 2pts, #5 ranking = 1pt. Note: As we only have 5 submissions this week, please only pick a top 5 if you have not submitted a submission. If you have submitted a submission, please pick a top 4 to prevent voting for yourself. Also, as this is the Bonus Round, all votes will be worth double the usual number of points!
  • You will also receive the opportunity to nominate a submission for Realism or Originality if you wish. These nominations are not compulsory; you can award them if you wish, but you do not have to nominate anyone for Realism or Originality.
  • Please only fill out this form once. I have not mandated this within the form itself, but I'm trusting you all here.
  • Please do not vote for yourself. I know that there is no way I can mandate this, but I trust you not to. Please can I request that you only nominate submissions that are not your own.
  • Please bear in mind that the numbered ranking categories in the Google Form (#1, #2, #3, #4 and #5) are intended to be mutually exclusive, and if you put a submission in one ranking spot, you should not put it in another. I will reject any ballots cast with one submission nominated for multiple ranking spots (for instance, you cannot nominate a submission as both your #1 and your #2). This does not apply to Most Realistic and Most Original, however; if you are making nominations in these categories, you can nominate the same submission for both, and you can also nominate a submission that you have already put in your 1-5 ranking for one or both of these categories if you wish.
  • Please judge submissions on track layout only. This is a coaster layout building contest; theming is pretty much irrelevant here.
  • I know that this form of voting is more anonymous than some may like. If you would like to add a slightly more personal touch, you can post a comment in this thread indicating your top 5 choices, as well as any Realism or Originality nominations. However, can I please request that the Google Form be your first port of call for voting; I will only count votes cast within the Google Form, as if you post in this thread, I wouldn't like to assume whether you've already voted in the Google Form or not. Post your choices in the thread by all means, but please make sure that you log your votes within the Google Form first, as the votes within the Google Form are the votes I'll be counting.
Here is a reminder of everyone's submissions so that you know what you're voting for:
  • Zenith, a B&M Hyper Coaster by @Matt N:
  • NemeGIB Rebound, a Vekoma Giant Inverted Boomerang by @Poisson:
  • Ride to Happiness, an Intamin Accelerator Coaster by @Thameslink Rail:
  • Treasure Falls, an Intamin LSM Launch Coaster by @RicketyCricket:
  • Test Flight, a B&M Inverted Coaster by @tactic:

Voting for the Bonus Round closes on Friday 21st March 2025 at 11:45pm, and the results will be revealed as part of the End of the Contest Digest.

I think that just about covers everything for this last week... get voting for the Bonus Round, folks! Remember, the Bonus Round is worth double the points of any other round, so this week, your vote can influence the outcome of the contest more than ever!

Just to remind everyone, we are now over half way through Week 18, and by extension the Bonus Round voting period. If you’d like to vote for your Bonus Round favourites, the voting link can be found here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd_a5zzvgs4C6njqwAoXMwnjIvqTLdo_9ZbrqifXB9YbZH2kA/viewform

Only 2 days remain until the voting deadline and the end of the contest. I’ve only had 1 response to the form so far, and that is my own. I’d strongly encourage you to vote if you’d like to; this is your last chance to influence the outcome of the contest, and remember, any votes in the Bonus Round are worth double the points of those in any previous round!

End of the Contest Digest (22nd March 2025)
OK, folks; Bonus Round voting is now over! As such, I can now reveal the final results for both the Bonus Round and the overall contest! Let me start with the Bonus Round results...

There were 3 responses to the Bonus Round Voting Google Form in total, and the winners of the Bonus Round were as follows:

Great round, everybody! If you're wondering why the point totals were so high relative to the number of votes, it's because as I've said before, votes in the Bonus Round were worth double what they were worth in previous rounds.

Let's now move onto the results for the overall contest...
Overall Contest Results
After 16 challenging rounds, the winners of the TowersStreet Planet Coaster Speed Build Contest 2024/25 are as follows:
Congratulations, winners; you will receive prizes from me via PM in due course!

For those interested, I can also reveal the Google Sheet I have been keeping throughout the contest, which shows people's exact vote distributions in each round:

So, that concludes the TowersStreet Speed Build Contest 2024/25! Thank you all so much for playing along; I hope you had fun! As always, there's been a brilliant standard of submissions maintained throughout, in my personal view, and this year, I feel like I pushed things particularly hard at times with the introduction of budget constraints. I felt that added an interesting dimension of additional difficulty!

If you have any feedback to give me on the contest, good or bad, it would be wholeheartedly appreciated. Don't hold back in this sense, either; if you think I've done a terrible job and need to improve things drastically, please tell me! I'd be particularly interested to hear how people found the addition of budget constraints for this year, given that I've never done that previously. If I'm being completely honest, I also noticed that engagement was pretty low at points this year; do I need to spice things up a bit?

I'm not currently going to commit to doing another contest in 2025/26, as due to my MSc finishing in September, I'm currently unsure what my work commitments will realistically look like come November. But let's be honest; I don't think I'll take an awful lot of convincing to hold another one if people are still interested! So if it gets to late October/early November and I haven't said anything, give me a nudge if you're interested in having another Speed Build Contest next closed season! Who knows... maybe I could even give Planet Coaster 2 a whirl next time?

That's all I need to say, really, so for now, I'll just thank you all for playing along once again! I hope you've all enjoyed yourselves, and congratulations to our winners! Now this thing is over, maybe it's about time I gave Planet Coaster 2 a more thorough play, particularly given they've recently revealed lots of updates...

Great competition as always Matt, really enjoy dealing with whatever horrendous restrictions are set and finding ways to build some abomination.

Always enjoy observing from a distance.
I gave up model games a decade ago, but your efforts continue to amaze and amuse.
Still can't get the biscuit tin lid off my big plasticine collection, but I will get back to coaster creating properly in my retirement.
