TS Wicker Man Take 2: Saturday, 24th March 2018

They've said they're hoping for the 24th. I thought that the minimum needed to operate Wicker Man was 1 degree? If they don't open it on Saturday, then it's surely just a cost saving tactic.
It was 1 degree yesterday, today and will be considerably higher tomorrow yet it won't have been operational on any of those days...

Looking forward to this. Whilst this weekend was disappointing in that the ride was unable to open, it was completely understandable, and I have a lot of sympathy for both Alton Towers and the many forms of entertainment they employed to launch the coaster. I’m sure other people are far more expert at the conditions the coaster can run in than Alton Towers are, however, judging by the comments already appearing on here

I have created a meet page and RSVP list for this one, as we anticipate the meet being popular enough to upgrade it to official status.

Is that the end of your optimism and the beginning of your descent into cynicism?(!). They're not going to save money by not operating something they just spent £10m+ on - that doesn't make any sense. They've said they're hoping for the 24th. I thought that the minimum needed to operate Wicker Man was 1 degree? If they don't open it on Saturday, then it's surely just a cost saving tactic.
If the temperature doesn't rise enough in order for snow/ice to shift, that causes a problem. It's not always as simple as 'if the temperate is above x they can run it'.

That's it, we've broken him. What hope is there now for the rest of us?Is that the end of your optimism and the beginning of your descent into cynicism?(!)

You haven't broken me at all! It was just that at the time, you all seemed fairly certain that the ride could have operated today, but it obviously isn't the case. If Alton says they can't open it, they can't open it. I'm thinking they'll probably open tomorrow with a full lineup, including Wicker Man on technical rehearsals.

Isn't it forecast at 10 degrees on Saturday, correct me if I'm wrong? So in theory, it should open as planned!Wicker Man is safe to operate at 2C+. As is the case with most other GCIs.
However, if the ride has snow and/or ice and/or high winds, it cannot operate regardless.
