You asked for it... we downed our drinks and cracked on with it!
Following the apparent success of the Socially Distant Pub Quiz on Saturday 4th April, we've decided to put ourselves through the stress of doing another one... not like there's much else to do is there. We'll be making use of the #quiz text and voice channels in our swanky Discord server again next weekend, and we've made a number of changes to improve the running of the evening based on your feedback!
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
- Registering - Just so that we can keep track of who is playing, we'll be asking each team to register with their members and team names by 10 minutes before the start of the quiz.
- New answer sheets - Instead of having the faff of filling in a word doc, sending it over and us getting stressed over checking your scores, we'll be asking you to fill in a form on the TS website. This will be linked to on the day in the Discord chat and will be sent straight to us as you hit submit.
- A new scoring system. We understand that a number of your were confused last time at how many points to award yourselves for each answer. We've decided to keep the points on offer as 5 for a correct answer and 3 for half-correct (after all what's the difference between 5 & 3 and 1 & 1/2), but with us being able to see your answers after each round, we will be able to mark them as we go. We'll be marking everyone's answer sheets ourselves so there's no need for players to ask in the chat if they can have the points for a near-correct answer. We'll be the judge of that. Don't worry though, we'll still give you all the right answers at the end of each half.
- Hosts - Joining @Rowe and myself will be @Sammy, who expressed a keen interest in helping out after the last one, so with a 3rd host we should quite easily be able to mark your answers as we go. Also on the team we've got @Craig who has been a stalwart supporter in the technical department, getting the scoring sheets to function and the music to work properly this time! Craig won't be hosting on the night but will be providing technical support.
- Music - One of the things we were asked to include in the next quiz was music in the breaks... well now you've got it! And miraculously it works as if playing a YouTube video, so doesn't rely on the hosts' internet connections.
- New rounds - We definitely felt that some rounds had run their course, so we've replaced a few but kept back some of the more popular ones, just to spice it up a bit!
- Difficulty - In order to appeal to more people and get everyone coming back for more, we've made the quiz a bit more accessible for those that aren't the biggest geeks in the community! There will still be some very specialist questions, but we've tried to bring the average difficulty level down a touch. Who knows, maybe this time's rounds will be more up your street?
Saturday 25th April at 8pm, and once again we expect people will begin to appear in the chat and voice channels from 7.30pm. As mentioned above, we'll need you to register your team by 7.50pm, so that we can set up our scoring sheets accordingly.
Where?
Our new Discord server! You'll need to be a registered Discord member to take part (it's free and instant), and you'll just need to follow the invitation link on www.towersstreet.com/chat to join in.
Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you there!
