Well you would be in the first safe country šŸ˜Ž I don't deny anyone to claim asylum in the UK (if they have reason to need to be in the UK - e.g family). Pick and choose which country is not OK in my book. Besides anything, Italy has a lot better weather, better food, and more beautiful women! 🤣

What you are suggesting exists, the EU doesn’t place refuges in the first safe country as that would put them all in Greece and Italy but they spread them across the block. But when we left the EU we stopped being part of that agreement which meant all these English speaking Asylum seekers had more incentive to come to the French coast.

It’s not that people didn’t try and get to the UK before but how often did you hear of boat crossings before we left?

Rarely.

Ironic that the people who voted Brexit (not saying you did) created a problem they now all have an issue with, yet they still believe Farage šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

And 74 years later.... Sorry but they should claim asylum in the first safe country they reach. Then the country (in this case the EU as a whole ) should be responsible for accepting, processing and welcoming them. The basic problem we have is that asylum seekers (or not!) pick and choose where they'd like to live.

That's not part of the 1951 convention, and certainly not the intention. If you're starving, accept a Big Mac - don't demand a Five Guys!
Fantastic. Just like our Nige, you've identified some problems.

So, on to the solutions then. What needs to happen? What can be done that's practical? Let's hear it.
