Universal Epic Universe - New Florida Theme Park

Rocking Boat would be absolutely perfect for Creature of the Black Lagoon, shame if it goes to Zelda.

One thing you can count on with Universal is that they move very quickly with construction compared to Disney, the Orlando parks are going to be incredible in a five years time.

Nintendo themselves will be heavily involved in any projects and as demonstrated by the worlds developed so far they will surely be incredibly satisfying realisations of those games combined with further innovation.

To be fair if Nintendo were involved in Mario Kart which I assume they were then that probably isn’t a good thing - I’ve not been on it yet (going in April) but from what I gleam it’s a real missed opportunity.

Nintendo have no experience with theme parks and ride systems but they are very good at the presentation and protection of their IP.

In that sense, Nintendo World is incredible and arguably a jaw dropping achievement.

I think the Mario Kart ride is fine and an excellent use of AR but agree as a theme park enthusiast a disappointing ride when a regular dark ride system would have been better. Nintendo are certainly very guilty of shoe horning fad gimmicks into their products.

All 3 rides certainly rely on their wonderful presentation over actual experience. I can’t knock them for the innovation attempted with Donkey Kong, it’s a brilliant idea. None of them are bad rides but you can probably have as much fun watching and interacting with the games rather than queuing 3 hours for a ride.

At least the queues are delightful too!

It makes sense in my view that they’d expand Nintendo before Dark Universe. The Frankenstein Experiment dark ride is an absolute machine when it comes to throughput and is regularly the only ride in the park with an “acceptable” wait time.

Nintendo has 3 relatively low capacity rides which are arguably the most popular/sought after in the park. When I was there last year I noticed Donkey Kong had a 285 minute queue, so I walked over to it just to observe people joining said queue! Given the Rocking Boat is a Mack produkt, I imagine the theoretical throughput is high and seeing the amount of staff that Universal have on their rides, I’ve no doubt it will reach it. I’ve never played Zelda nor know anything about it, but ride system wise it seems a good shout.

Wind Waker is a Zelda game that takes place almost entirely on sailing through the ocean. One of my favourite Zelda games, however I would be surprised if it was based on that.
