[🌎 Universal GB] General Discussion

If Universal UK really is getting Harry Potter attractions then I don't see our Legoland getting them too. Legoland Germany is far enough away to not impact anything.

Be amazed if we had Warner Bros tour, Universal UK and also a Harry Potter legoland area all within 1hr drive of each other.

WB might do it if they believe LEGO Harry Potter is different enough to the Movies version Universal and the Studio Tour would use. Frankly I just think if Legoland got LEGO HP and Universal had a Harry Potter land, it'd just make Universal's look better in comparison because there's no way Merlin would invest the amount needed to reach that level.

Interesting development regarding the complex set of American conglomerate entertainment companies that could have an impact on any Harry Potter developments in the UK, is that Comcast are one of the options to buy Warner Bro's Discovery (WBD). This could end up with an incredibly complex set of companies and IP's with specific rights here in the UK. Comcast already own Sky, and are already in high level talks to buy ITV's TV and brand divisions.
There are others buyers in talking including Netflix and Paramount. WBD is set to split up within a few years anyway, despite only just being merged.
Here's a video that explains the possible mergers from a TV standpoint (also used by me as a source for this, it seems to be well researched, and the video creator has provided sources themselves), but the theme park IP's impact isn't discussed in the video.

A potential sale to Comcast or Paramount could likely end up in a competition battle both in the US but also, particularly if the Sky ITV deal goes ahead, here in the UK.

It would be interesting to see if more IPs come to Legoland. I can totally see an entire Lego park based around IP but in Lego from.

It would work very well and I don’t think it would cannibalise the other established parks.

I, for one, would love to see Marvel, DC, Potter, Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Indiana Jones etc all at one park but in Lego :)

A Legoland IP second gate at Alton could work well imo

They could rip out all of Walliams world and have a Lego themed area. It wouldn't be my first choice, I'd still prefer a steam punk style area ( which fits better for towers) buts it would be allot better than what's there currently
Could we keep discussion on Universal please - there are plenty of other topics for Towers discussion here! Thanks 🙏

One thing I hope Universal GB brings is one of a kind rides non cloned rides.

Universal Parks though very good often use the same rides there's not a single Universal Park that goes without a clone

From Forbidden Journey, Revenge of the Mummy, Transformers, Minions, Jaws to name but a few.

To be clear I do love these cloned rides but I prefer unique experiences

I’d be happy with a mix. Many of the existing Universal rides are incredible and it will be nice for those who rarely or in many cases never get to experience them to have an opportunity.

Given how many people from the UK visits florida, I would imagine a lot of the rides would be unique to minimise cannibalising their uk marker for florida.

Agree.

As the goose will tell you, I’ve advocated for this multiple times.

I imagine there will be a parliamentary vote announced before it’s approved, so I think we could be a little while off yet.

How far in advance is the agenda in Parliament announced?

I'm not sure Parliament will need to approve it directly? I believe under the new infrastructure and local government bills (can't remember which one), the Secretory of State will have the power to approve without parliamentary approval. Although I believe both of those acts are still going through Parliament, the House of Lords seems to be playing havoc with any Labour legislation at the moment, so they may decide to have a vote for just this, as it seems to have cross party support, so should sail through.

The SDO needs to be laid before parliament but it will likely be negative procedure so unless either one of houses objects within a set number of days, then it would be automatically approved
