[🌎 Universal GB] Planning, Transport and Infrastructure

BBC have come out with this report today..

Team Edit: A Croydon MP is concerned that a scheme to remodel a bottleneck on the Brighton Main Line may impact some major projects. This includes Gatwick’s runway expansion and the Universal UK project. It only speculates on the impact to the project, but does not confirm any delay.

Delays already lol!

Clickbait much?

It's just delays to the Thameslink project, not Universal UK itself.

Tbf he didn't say it was delays on the Universal site though.

These huge infrastructure projects are badly needed if this park is going to open on time. The general consensus from locals in Bedfordshire is that the local roads don't have a hope in hell of coping with up to 30,000 extra people a day arriving at the same time many people are heading off to work and school. If these rail projects don't get completed in time, there's no way Universal opens in 2031 in my opinion.

I suspect it will be 2032 when it actually opens to the public.

How is it clickbait? It's a literal factual report on what an MP said during a House of Commons debate and the headline isn't sensationalist. No one claimed that there were delays to Universal UK. The headline is "Rail scheme delay may impact Gatwick and Universal".
Croydon East MP Natasha Irons warned that failing to tackle the long‑standing bottleneck could have wider consequences for the South East economy.

She said further delays risked undermining the proposed Universal Studios theme park in Bedfordshire, due to open in 2031, which is expected to support about 28,000 jobs and attract 8.5 million visitors a year.

She also warned that the ÂŁ2.2bn northern runway expansion at Gatwick Airport could be hindered.

"Rail is not an optional extra - it is a fundamental element of Gatwick's success," Irons said.

The transport minister said that rail spending remained constrained and that the government would not be currently providing funding for CARS.
The article was written by the Local Democracy Reporting Service which exists to write monitor and write factual non-partisan reports on decisions made in the public's name, including council meetings, planning and policy decisions.

Sorry I was referring to the OP's post, not the BBC article.

Gatwick would get hit with it much worse because at least Universal has alternative routes and no bottleneck anywhere near as bad at Croydon exists on the Midland route. I read it more (as a glass half full) as "If you get cracking on with the remodelling round Croydon, it'll benefit big projects like Gatwick's expansion and Universal"

I'm not worried
