Unpopular Opinions: Theme Park Edition

Shortening/awkwardly modifying coaster names should be banned. Makes me cringe even just seeing "Shammy" written down (you're only saving 3 typed letters!) let alone spoken (apologies @Matt N but you've set me off) ;). Same goes for the likes of "Bloofi" and "Nemmy." Exceptions can be made only for humourous connotations - i.e. "Furius Backache"

Its not that i dislike it - far from it. I've been to PA 3 times since it opened so I've rode 15-20 times now, and I just don't seem to get much airtime out of it. The first drop is stunning though.

Mako is much more consistent with solid airtime over pretty much every hill. And whilst Silver Star doesnt have that consistency, there are 2 or 3 really strong stand out moments.

Although thinking about it I've got a fat **** and thighs like Serena Williams, and on Shambhala i need to be stapled in. On the other two B&M hypers I've ridden I fit comfortably with a bit of wiggle room to spare.
Ah right, makes sense. Thanks @RicketyCricket!

Sorry @Alastair...

Giving things you're familiar and have affinity with nicknames and shorthand isn't something I understand being angry about.

Like some enthusiast behaviour is odd but this is a thing literally everyone does with everything, and half the time it's done knowingly and ironically anyway. Dunno it seems a lot of effort to let it under your skin. Unless you also get mad at people doing it for like, street names and stuff.

I really don't mind when people are using things like "Nemmy", or "Blivvy", or "Smiley", when referring to the Alton Towers coasters, in fact I've used them myself many many times. But the term "Big Bob" for the Wicker Man sculpture is rather cringey if I'm being totally honest. Like, why..? :tearsofjoy:

Ah but nicknames are very different from what I'm suggesting. Nicknames are completely different names to the ride name, I'm talking about when the actual name itself is changed (but remains in there somehow). Just comes across as lazy and really has no benefit except to confuse people not in the know. I guess as well as the exception for names of a comedic nature, it's also fine to abbreviate stuff down to letters (EP, EGF etc) - strictly however in the presence of people that know what you're on about though!

Big Bob?

Exactly.

His name should be Alan.

The Orca show in its various guises at Sea World is ****** entertaining and it would be a shame to see it go.

Fireworks shows are ****.

It goes bang and theres some colour. Meh.

I dont mind them as part of a show ala Disney Dreams where they added to it, but without a story ala Towers they are just boring.

I kind of don't want Rita to go for the parks sake. yes, I don't particularly like it after the launch due to roughness, and yes, I'd be extremely happy if SW9 was built in it's place but I'm being (theoretical?). If SW9 comes in 2021/22 I want it to be a Mack Launch coaster. I'd be happy with an Intamin along the lines of Maverick or Taron(or any smooth, exciting layout). But for me I'd prefer lap bars, and Mack has very comfortable ones.

My problem is Rita is a favourite for the GP. It'd be one not many would like to see leave. it's more popular than everything but The Smiler and Wickerman from my judgement. removing it wouldn't be the best move for the GP. If Mack delivered a powerful launch like the Intamins it'd be good, but that would be the one part of the ride most miss. I don't see an Intamin launch replacing the same ride type but the year Rita is removed would have to be the year before a new launch coaster opened.

In short, I believe removing Rita would be a harder decision for Towers than removing The Smiler, Air or Thirteen, as stupid as it sounds.

I just thought of some more for this topic:
  • Big Dipper at BPB is actually quite a fun coaster, even though it's a little rough and jolty around the edges.
  • Nick Streak is the best of BPB's woodies.
  • Grand National is far too brutal to enjoy.
  • Steeplechase hurts me and is uncomfortable.
  • Accelerator is the best coaster at Drayton Manor (excluding G-Force, as it was closed when I went).
  • Hungarian Horntail is slightly better than Chinese Fireball at IOA, only because I don't remember it being quite as uncomfortable.

Europa looks like it has nice hotels but thats all I can see in appeal
