Unpopular Opinions: Theme Park Edition

I’ll digress that I also don’t find the position as terrible as most do. It’s a bit weird, granted, and I would prefer a regular sit down train, but I definitely didn’t hate it on Shockwave as much as most seem to.
Same here, although I've only ridden Shockwave in the front row.

See, I don't mind the position in which one has to ride Shockwave. Then again, I fully acknowledge that I'm not normal, so... :p

I'd agree. 11 of us went to DMP a few days back and the theming is minimal, hardware isn't great and Jorjamjar is already peeling, plus it's lost another car.

Tidal Wave is great on a hot day and I like the theming. Storm Surge and Rumba Rapids however can get in a bin

Also people need to learn how to spell queue. Q, que and cue are unacceptable.
Yes, thank you! Glad I'm not the only one who finds this unbelievably irritating!

Tidal Wave at Thorpe is a waste of space, there is no reason for anyone to want to get that wet.
Agreed. There are probably a handful of days in the summer when it seems like a good idea but then you look at the queue board and decide you can't be a**ed to wait in the heat for 90 minutes...

Water coasters in this country are a total waste.

I went to Fright Nights on Friday evening. Some folks getting on Tidal Wave on a cold wet October evening! What is wrong with people? Mental!

I prefer the Universal parks over Disney. I like the IP's Universal has more than Disney's and Universal has Nintendo and I love Nintendo so there is a bit of bias and Universal is actually opening **** like Super Nintendo World and Epic Universe compared to Disney's "Ehhh we might do it just wait and see"

There’s clearly demand for a super wet ride in the cold; I always remember how Shawn Sanbrooke used to lap Valhalla at Pleasure Beach on WOW Weekends (he’d show it in his vlog), and I know others do similar things with Tidal Wave!

It’s never appealed to me at all, but clearly I’m in a minority!

On a side note; my unpopular opinion for the day is that I didn’t enjoy Valhalla on the one occasion I rode it.

I apologise if that’s controversial, as I know most people absolutely adore it, but I just found the wetness too much, if I’m being honest. I don’t mind water rides, and even something like Popeye was a ride that I remember enjoying, but Valhalla was so, so much wetter than any other ride I’ve ever ridden that it felt almost like an endurance test for me. I got off it shivering and dripping wet as though I’d gone for a swim in the sea, even though I rode it in near 30 degree heat…

I must admit that I also didn’t find getting into the water-filled boats particularly nice… the water came up well beyond my shoes (thankfully, I was wearing sandals, so this didn’t really matter, but it still wasn’t the most appetising), and I could see stuff floating in it.

I won’t deny that Valhalla is an impressive ride, but it’s not one I’d rush back onto, personally.

I don't think you're alone there Matt. The one time I did it - on a pretty chilly day in late September one year, it was miserably wet. There are certain seats in the boat which will get you wetter than others I believe - guess which ones we landed? I had a waterproof coat and a poncho, both were inadequate. There was about 4 inches of water in bottom of the boat which I tried to avoid stepping in (unsuccessfully, not helped by the fact that I had sprained my ankle the day before). It's bags on so I tried to keep my rucksack under the poncho on my knees but one of the drops launched it to the floor and pretty much everything inside it got soaked - including my spare pair of (no longer) dry socks. Also very nearly put paid to my phone, which refused to switch on at lunchtime and sulked for an entire day until I was able to take it apart and completely dry it out overnight. Would have been very tempted to send Amanda Thompson the bill for it had it not recovered!

Genuine question: what's so funny?

Think it was just the level of outrage (which I do share!) at the various misspellings of queue.

Mandy will sell you a waterproof zipbag for two quid, so no liability.

RE: Valhalla

With every year that passes, I find myself more in agreement with the extremely negative Coaster Kingdom (RIP) review from nearly 20 years ago: http://www.s104638357.websitehome.co.uk/html/valhalla_main.htm

When I first read the review more than 15 years ago I still thought Valhalla was a spectacular ride, albeit one that was too wet. Time has not been kind to the ride but Coaster Kingdom's distaste for it was ahead of the curve
