Hi!

Is anyone on these at all? If so how are you getting on? And any side effects? And how do you cope with said side effects.

I classed myself as obese - not sure I was clinically but at 5ft 10 and 16st 10 coming up to 40 I had a slight midlife epiphany.

So - after seeing the news and knowing various people on weight loss jabs - I signed up and ended up going with Mounjaro

Now - I am four months in to my treatment and have lost circa 2.5st. It’s now at the stage where people are visibly shocked when they see me after a while.

But the higher doses I get the worse the side effects are. Stating the obvious really.

I’m now on a 10mg dose. Awful sulphur burps and terrible cramp / diarrhoea for two days after the jab. Taking ginger supplement has settled this someone.

But, is there anyone else who gets this and what have you done to calm the effects?
Or is anyone thinking of starting these?

Best mates wife has had similar results...good loss, didn't mention the side effects...but we were out to lunch!
Well done mate, keep it off.
I'm always a stone overweight in summer, two in winter, due to gardening and a sweet tooth.

Well that’s another side affect - a logical one

Diet has changed. Can’t eat. At all really. Obviously I do. Very small meals, no sweets, chocolate ice cream

Biggest upset. Beer. A few pints and you feel ****. 💩

Would love to know other recommendations for alcohol as right now I’m on white wine only

I’m weighing it up at the moment. I have a health check through work’s medical plan next month, and there’s the potential it could be prescribed then.

Do you have an end goal in mind?

And congrats. 2.5st off in 4 months is great going!

Id like to be 13.5 but then build up to 14 via gym exercise etc

Congrats on your progress @Jb85

I decided about a year ago it'd be a good idea for me to do something more drastic after years of diets which I think have probably made my appetite worse rather than better.

Tried to get support from the NHS, which was obviously a waste of time - despite being eligible for a hospital led weight loss programme and being referred for it almost a year ago I have heard nothing at all back.

I've improved my exercise regime massively in the last year, I now do moderate to high intensity exercise at least 5 days a week.

Unfortunately I've still put on loads. I've called time on the NHS this evening and signed up for Mounjaro privately. Allegedly the cost is subsidised by £50 through my health insurance but its still eye watering, but what else am I going to spend the money on? Food probably.

Who do you get your prescription through @Jb85 ? Have they been useful/supportive?

I assume you know this won’t do much for weight loss? Need to reduce the calories going in before trying to burn them off. Try something like MyFitnessPal to count the calories going in and try to eat higher protein filling meals.

I literally stated it as fact ;)

Wont be calorie counting tho, ta. Been there, done that, therein lies depression for me. The dispenser programme I've signed up through seems cool with not counting too: https://www.secondnature.io/guides/nutrition/count-calories-to-lose-weight

Appreciate we're all wired up differently and for some it'll work but not me.

The reason I mention exercise is just as evidence (to myself as much as anyone) that I am doing something positive with my life despite not succeeding in weightloss, I've never exercised as much as I am at the moment. I hope if I stick with that, in conjunction with taking stuff that'll make me less hungry, I'll do a better job keeping it off.

Hi 👋
I get mine through MedExpress. Been really supportive actually. Although approval timescales can be slow.

I can get refer a friend codes if anyone is interested. Bonus for you and bonus back for me!

Good luck !

Hopefully it works for you, my husband has lost over 10kg using one of the jabs, but he did have some success with calorie counting but found he got hungry at times, which is where the jab helped.
I haven’t had to lose significant weight but helping him calorie count in the past has definitely made me more mindful about the size of dinner portions we have, even though since the jab I will help finish his sometimes!

I started Mounjaro two weeks ago. Lost 2.2lbs both weeks. Minimal side effects other than not fancying more than two beers on a Friday night. My diet hasn’t changed drastically, so I think it’s led to a nice increase in my metabolism speed.

Fingers crossed this keeps up.

8 weeks in, 8kg down. Last jab at 0.25 tomorrow, on to 0.5 next week.

Not long after I started I got a call from the hospital to say I'd made it to the top of the list for the NHS hospital weight loss service. I thought I might be able to move to an NHS prescription but no, my BMI is not high enough for that (and of course it's falling all the time now...).

I am however now on a pathway to weight loss surgery 🤷‍♂️ see where I've got to in a year's time I guess.

Wholesale price is going up by up to 270%. Wild news.

My provider is offering a switch to Wegovy for similar money to what I currently pay. I don't think I can really be paying £300+ if that's what it turns out to be :(

You can see why the manufactuters do it though. Their patents only last so long after they've poured money into creating the drugs, so they have to make as much money as they reasonably can before the whole world can just copy them and produce it, bringing the prices right down. It's no help now, but the prices will come right down when their patent runs out in the early 2030s or whenever it is. I don't agree with totally ripping people off, but they do need to make a little extra for those first several years. Not sure where they are on that scale, but it certainly won't be helped by Trumpy boy.

I’ve had a similar offer - not sure what the difference between the drugs is though?

To some extent. They were clearly alright with selling it at the lower price in this market - otherwise they wouldn't have done that.

Lets accept the notion that they now have to align prices closer to the international price to appease Trump - I don't actually think that'll prove to be the case, but lets go with it. Lets also ignore the fact the medicine has been selling like gangbusters and pretend it'll be inline with their projections (unlikely unless their forecasts at launch were incredibly aggressive I would suggest, further borne out by the shortages which have existed).

The company will have have a significant amount of R&D expenditure which they need to pay off during the course of their patent - if they can't price per market any more then surely some markets will see a significant reduction in the cost, if that overall payback is to be maintained? From what I can see Lilly are hiking the price everywhere to justify the existing US price remaining.

This is why I think this whole thing reeks of opportunism.

Good write up here.

My very primitive understanding - they both mimic GLP-1 - which is the main "full feeling" generator AIUI. Mounjaro also contains GIP, which does something to do with insulin, and is thought to be the reason Mounjaro is a tiny bit more effective than Wegovy - but the trial results are otherwise very similar.
