Weirdest coincidences you've ever experienced?

Hi guys. In life, I've noticed that I sometimes experience strange coincidences. For instance, I might be thinking about something, and then something related to the thing I was thinking about pops up or comes along. I'm sure many of us have experienced that kind of thing at least once in life, so I'd be keen to know; what are some of the weirdest coincidences you've ever experienced? Have you ever thought about something or said something and then had something happen directly related to it and thought "Wow, that's weird!"?

Personally, I have a slightly morbid one that I'd like to share...

I was out on a walk with my mum on 8th April 2021 (the oddly specific date is an important detail!), and we were discussing the arrangements for Prince Philip's then-planned 100th birthday celebrations, which had been talked about in the news recently. I then said to her in passing "Do you think there's a chance, however remote, that Prince Philip might not live to 100?", and we then discussed that briefly.

When I looked at my iPad the very next day, 9th April 2021, the top headline was none other than "Prince Philip dies aged 99", and when turning on the TV, I was greeted by the national anthem, royal commentators and obituaries... I must say that I found this rather spooky seeing as I had discussed whether Philip would die before the age of 100 only the previous day, despite all of the positive news coverage talking about his impending 100th birthday celebration!

But what are some of the weirdest coincidences you've ever experienced? I'd be really interested to know!

I think you might be suffering from confirmation bias (or at least I think that’s what it’s called - the course was a long time ago!). On the very rare occasion you think of something and it then happens you will remember that more than the 100s of other times when you have thought of something and nothing related to it happened.
It’s a perfectly normal part of being a human ☺️

Oh, I know very well that it’s confirmation bias or just a plain old weird coincidence. Some people believe that you can innately sense things like that before they happen, but I’m not personally spiritual or superstitious enough to believe in that type of thing.

I just thought it was a really weird coincidence and was interested to see if anyone else had ever experienced anything similar!

Perhaps reading a book which mentioned a certain posh brand of shoes that I had never heard of before and whose name I can't remember and then getting an ad for it on my phone on the same day, even though I am not interested in shoes.

This coincidence in my life will likely never be topped. It's nothing important and actually quite random, but to this day I can't fathom the chances of it happening.

Back when I started my degree (2010) there was a girl in my class who I had a HUGE crush on. My young adolescent brain thought of little else. In the end we never went out, and over time the crush dissipated and we became good friends.

However, at this time I was still crushing on her. I had gone to Meadowhall for something at the weekend, it was absolutely crawling. My car was parked outside Next and as I climbed back in, I started thinking about her. I (quite randomly I suppose) fantasised about her pulling up in her sky-blue Ford Ka next to my car, and we could go shopping together.

I sat in my car for a while, deciding whether to drive home or drive somewhere for a walk. I started the engine, then it happened.

A Ford Ka passed in front of me. Sky-blue... weird, wait... that's her car, that's her in it! She's parking opposite me...!

Then she got out, I got out, said something to the tune of "Fancy seeing you here..." and we went shopping for a bit.

It's a daft mundane story, but to this day I still think about the chances of her going to Meadowhall on that day, at that time, deciding to park in that car park, driving up that row of cars and parking opposite my car, a few minutes after I had that exact thought.

Trying to decode this. Not sure what Meadowhall is supposed to mean, but "shopping" is code for sex right? 😉

Is she now your wife?

Go on then as it's also theme park related...

Summer 2019 I'm in Cedar Point with friends queueing for Wicked Twister (RIP GBNF etc) as an odd number of people we split into the pens with me on my own. A woman asks if she can join in the queue with me. We start talking and I explained I'm on holiday and visiting a number of different theme parks. Asked were I'm from and I said Liverpool, she asked me what area. I thought she must've thought I meant East Liverpool which is in Ohio. But explained the area in Liverpool I lived in. To which she exclaimed she was from just up the road in Aigburth. She'd emigrated to America in the early 90s. What were the odds of that happening!

Was driving home from Devon between Christmas and New Year, and stopped off at Exeter services because I needed the loo. Parked up, and who should I see getting out of a car in the next row of cars to mine? Yup - my older brother, along with his wife, their two daughters, and my younger brother (he was heading back to Leatherhead with them before then going on to his home in London). I'd only said goodbye to them not much more than an hour beforehand! Was quite nice to have lunch with them in the end (wasn't gonna complain, especially as I didn't end up paying for it!).

Earlier this week, Mum had a bit of a chat with me about baptism (I'm getting baptised and received into membership at my church in a few weeks' time, as it happens), and she said that full immersion could be the better option as opposed to just water on the forehead - basically because she's known adults who've only gone for forehead baptism and regretted it later in life, whereas it's never been the case for anyone she knows who's gone for full immersion. Cue a dream I had a couple of nights later where our old paddling pool was set up inside my church and I got baptised in that. If that's not a sign as to what I should do, then I don't know what is! :p

Before I knew my friend jade, we’d both moved from our respective hometowns to a small town in Spain (mojacar), in the same year moved to Weston super mare, went to the same school, while I was working in a chippy, jade and her family moved into the flat upstairs. A year later I left that job and worked on the grand pier when a month later she also joined but working in a completely different section. We eventually connected 2 months into that job and we both left on the same day to join Wetherspoons which opened up around the corner!

This happened over a period of 25 years yet we’ve only been friends since 2010 and we only realised this absolutely incredible coincidence in 2015. It’s an absolutely insane story that blows my mind every time I think about it!

Excellent story. Before this gets any weirder though, it wasn't the chippy in Locking Castle was it?

Sorry to **** on your chips… unfortunately not, it was Atlantic broadway nearer the oldmixon estate!
Ah right. Only asked because I briefly lived in the flat above The Codfather. Going back nearly 20 years ago I used to be the deputy manager of that Tesco Express on Broadway next to Atlantic, or Broadway Fish Bar as it was known at the time. I was there for 2 years. They used to bring all the leftovers in to the store every night when they closed.

I remember when we opened, typical Tesco didn't plan where the deliveries came in and we used to have to cone off the car park and stop traffic on Broadway when deliveries arrived so that the wagons could reverse into the car park. Because our car park was closed, customers used to park in the chip shop car park and on the hatch boxes so the owner hired a clamper. An agreement was reached that the lorries would use the chippy car park when it was closed to unload and that deliveries would only arrive when the chippy was closed. I wonder if it's still like that? That Tesco converted from One Stop around 2 decades ago now.

I've got one!

I've been trying to move for years because we're sooo isolated but circumstances and availability have seemingly worked in tandem against these plans! A short while back, I took the boys to a museum in the area I've been trying to relocate to (10 miles from current location) during our walk to the park afterwards, we took a short cut, found a wishing fountain we didn't know existed so my eldest threw a coin in, making a wish: "I wish we could find a new house" Life went on.

Over the last couple of months, I've been applying for, viewing and being rejected from (I have pets!) many potential new homes in various places around the area; it's been very stressful as the boys are really unhappy here and my eldest now attends school in the area we have been trying to move to. A new listing came up on Tuesday, applied straight away, viewed Wednesday. When I arrived, guess where it was? Right opposite the fountain! They had viewings before and after me so wasn't hopeful (people were literally waiting outside 😂)... but they called today to say they've paused viewings and would like to offer us the tenancy; I could literally throw a coin in the fountain from my new bedroom window! Needless to say, I've paid my holding deposit and we move in January 😊
