Stereophonics - Indian Summer

A bit lighter than my usual music, but really liking the new album - that track in particular sounds like a tribute to the Will of days gone by :)

You must have all had it where you know there are some albums that are your complete favourites, and you know that they are great and can play the songs off by heart in your head at will. For me, once I love an album, I don't need to play it to know the songs, and this causes me to go for very long periods of time without hearing my favourite albums.

But this week, I've listened to two of my favourite albums for the first time this year, just to check if they were as good as I remembered.

Earlier this week, I listened to my all-time favourite album- obvious Muse's Origin of Symmetry- for the first time in a long while, just to check whether it was still my favourite, as Abbey Road was running it very close at the time. But it just took one listen again to confirm it as my favourite, and I remembered how good it is. It's one thing to hear an album in your head, but a completely different thing to experience it in your ears. I had forgotten the brilliance of the outro to Citizen Erased, and the part where the music moved from ear to ear absolutely stunned me. In my mind I know the song, and I know it's my favourite, but it takes another listen to confirm this for me and remind me how great it was.

The second album, that I'm listening to right now is Radiohead's OK Computer- another album that has been a favourite of mine for a while- and again, I have not listened to it for many months. I remember the quality of the songs, and now- whilst listening to it- I think of how far ahead of its time it was, and how well produced it is. And only re-listening to it reminds me of the excellence of certain parts of the songs. Like the drum fill (best fill ever) in Exit Music, the seamless transition into Let Down and whole of Paranoid Android take a re-listen to remind me of why I love these albums. (Although I did not remember Subterranean Homesick Alien being so dull.)

So, I'm just going to ask those who have not heard an album they love in a while to give it a listen this weekend, and re-live the brilliance of an album for the first time in a while.

Who knows, maybe you'll love it even more than before.
