If the park ends up under a few inches of snow there is literally nothing they can do to stop that...

It will be unfortunate, but life often beats you around the head constantly like a Vekoma SLC just to spite you...

I've seen BPB staff track walking the woodies spraying hot water on them to get ice of the tracks in the past, hope Alton will do the same.

I would imagine that the park will be doing everything they can in preparation for Saturday given that they announced the opening date. I still fully expect for the ride to operate, perhaps not at the start of the day though depending on how bad the weather actually is.

Does anyone know the minimum temperatures and maximum wind speeds the rides can operate in. Actual temp on Saturday dips down to -2 with 40mph gusts midday.

Is there such a thing as heated rails? I'm just wondering (if it's not already a thing) if they could run heated wires much like the ones we have in car windscreens under the metal track to help with getting it running on cold days?

-5?! Crikey, that's cold! How come only the B&Ms can operate in that temperature?

    No clue, just good design.

This is the precise reason why only B&M rides would ever operate during FHT... when it had such an event.

The glory days where you could sit on Oblivion for 25 successive rides, as the park was completely dead.

    Really?

Silver star is the worst cold weather performer at EP and that’s their only B&M.

Though a lot of times it’s how you set up the various elements to a ride and you can tune to any weather (oil used, wheel compounds etc).

At least Nemesis is open then. Probably worth going out then for me.

    Yes.

Silver Star is significantly taller which means the top of the lift hill is much colder than ground level.

The B&Ms at Towers, for obvious reasons, do not suffer from this problem.

The restrictions come from B&M - not AT, in the handbook.

The TLC twitter page just shared an update indicating that the park will still be open for the weekend which is somewhat reassuring. I really do hope that they get the main rides open as the park will most likely be quite empty aside from the other determined enthusiasts.

I think they will make a decision tomorrow. They closed on services day due to the snow and cold temperatures, wouldn't surprise me if they do the same and move opening day to Monday.

It would surprise me quite a bit given the promotion for the opening day being for Saturday

    Eeek.

First time I went to Thorpe, The Swarm was on a One Train Service. My god was it frustrating.
