Wicker Man - General Discussion

Interesting listing on Ebay, anyone want a running wheel?

My one concern with stuff like this is; how do we know it’s an actual Wicker Man wheel?

To my knowledge, the park has never sold them, so I don’t know how the person would have gained access to it other than through working at Towers. It’s easy to create a certificate of authenticity on Word and print it out.

I’m not saying it isn’t legitimate (there could very well be an Alton Towers engineer who has one and is being entrepreneurial), but I would be slightly wary.

Well yeah exactly mate, I'm not claiming it's real or anything. Interesting how there are photos of the maintenance bay though, must of worked there surely. Don't think they offer this on the VIP tours?

It looks like its the right wheel and bearing from the photos but who knows.

I personally am not a huge fan of buying these types of ride parts (even if they are genuine), because they simply look like generic components to anybody who visits your house etc

If it was something specifically branded, or obvious what it is even without a certificate or explanation (e.g. the log flume log) then that's a different story, though!

No no no, gold will be useless in The Aftermath. You should be stockpiling food and ciggies (to trade for more food).
I was thinking more about a possible mid-term situation where we have to try to cross borders or whatever to save our families (before a nuclear holocaust). The physical metals might come in handy. This is probably for another thread though, which sounds fun (and actually not as crazy as it sounded a few years ago).

I’m guessing it’s an AT staff member. If you look at their (few) previous sales, one is for a scare fest staff hoodie.

So my guess is that the wheel’s genuine BUT there are no guarantees and it’s definitely greymarket. It raises the question about how they were obtained. I wouldn’t want to own anything that might’ve been nicked, even if it had been fished out of a scrap metals bin.

Hopefully the seller uses a fake return address so that AT don't buy the wheel themselves and attempt to track the employee down!*

Although they may now be an ex-employee anyway and so perhaps aren't all that bothered if they do

I'm not sure what the rules regarding old ride parts are; if they have been legitimately discarded and were heading for the scrap heap anyway then can it still be counted as 'theft' if somebody takes it home with them instead?

(*Ironically, AT would probably just end up selling the wheel on eBay themselves anyway)

It remains theft from work, often an immediate sackable offence, gross misconduct.

Also how I got most of my souvenirs...but via a manager who got "quiet word" consent from above.

Still not allowed to brag though...

I never understood why people steal famous paintings (e.g. The Mona Lisa)

Surely it would be confiscated as soon as it's put up for sale?

Unless a rich guy simply buys it in secret and hides it in his basement or something

P.S. I'm not sure if this is true, but I heard that more people actually went to see the blank space at The Louvre where the Mona Lisa once stood (after it was stolen) than went to see the painting itself when it was there
So in addition to condoning theft, you’re now suggesting they commit further fraud? Providing a fake return address is a criminal offence under the Fraud Act and a breach of consumer regulations. It's also a quick way to get an instant platform ban from eBay.
I meant to say PO Box rather than fake address (honest!)
