You're old school. Plus the old school way of doing things was possible with the old school way of paying people.

Our unemployment statistics suggest the two don't always correlate and as for lazy, most of the time the customer does more work!

Current employment statistics are not worth the paper they are written on. You only have to work 1hr a week to be classed as employed and zero hours contracts are on the increase. Employment stats are a government fudge at the moment.

Not that I’m advocating any position on selfservice but correlating the idea that employment has increased despite the introduction of SS misunderstands the stats.
 
@GaryH Apologies, didn't meant to tag you there. Perhaps not the place for a 'some people want a zero hours contract' debate...

In terms of the post, I was referring to the fact that the way the world works and changes continues the way it has always done. Lamplighters used to go around and light the street lights, we changed that and made it automatic. Trains used to have three people on the footplate, now they have one (or none!).
