You know you're getting old when...

I drove an automatic for the first time yesterday. Driving is very much done on instinct. The amount of times I court myself depressing an non existent clutch and reaching for a gear stick, without even thinking about it was fascinating.

One of the vans at work has the handbrake on the right. That Is a mind ****.

What about the button handbrakes? 🤯

If you think that’s freaky, try an EV with single pedal operation for the first time. You have to try and suppress every urge to move your foot across to the brake (except in emergencies) and get to grips with just moving the accelerator up and down to speed up/slow down. That, plus the lack of gears.

I watched a video about that feature and I would steer clear of using it, since decelerating using it doesn't always cause the brake lights to illuminate even under fairly heavy braking. Video here if interested.

Dunno what it is of late. Whenever I take my car in for some work, or I have to drive one of the work vans/cars for a period of time. I get crippling back pain the next day.

I know my knew aches whenever I purchase a new vehicle but this back thing is a *******.
I've had quite crippling back pain for a number of years now, but has been better recently due to chiropractic care which has cost me a fortune. What made me start was that long car journeys would result in the pain from my back going round my waist and down my legs.

Anyway, my chiropractor noticed that my back is also causing a noticeable weakness in my legs, particularly the right. Him and my doctor were quite concerned when they looked at, shall we say other problems I've been having, which could be symptoms of something quite serious so sent me for an MRI.

Luckily, the C word was ruled out which is great news. However, trying to explain the back pain, the physio packaged it also as good news by saying there's no nerve damage but that there is a "fair amount of degeneration" but that it was not too bad "for someone of your age" as she put it.

Ah yes, I’ve seen Alec’s video 😅

Thankfully the one I’ve driven does apply the brake lights properly, but yeah that Hyundai/Kia implementation is terrifying.

Ah yes, that lovely medical term I keep hearing...
"Typically in the range of an individual of your age."
Sarcopenia mate...never quite get back to where you were on recovery.
Keep doing the painkillers, keep treating yourself occasionally.
Beer helps on occasion, loosens those back muscles.

When I was 18/19 I went to physio after hurting my neck and back playing rugby and he looked my legs and went.
"Did you do alot of running as a child?"
"Yes, played football, rugby AFB tennis."
"Did you ever do any upper body work?"
"No"
Turns out, I did so much running as a kid and no weight training, my hamstrings are too tight. Which In turn affects my back muscles.

A mate of mine went to the drs with back ache. They operated on his jaw to correct it

When i a pick a vehicle for a firework event cover. Another crew assumed i was the driver of the 5 ton ambulance, as i look like an old fart that can. Nope i was not driving that one.

Later at the off event meeting place. We did a guess who is/does. Most guesses it was me when collector of ambulance memorabilia came up. Not roller coaster enthusiast that i put down on the list.

When sex requires a full athletic warm up, and/or gives you an injury that lasts several days.
I'm glad you mentioned this, because I actually found myself having to stretch first a few months ago and thought I was the only one. The last thing you need is your calf muscles packing in half way through.

That's if you can't find enough excuses. Sometimes I lay there and think "but then I'll have to get up afterwards, walk to the bathroom, put the shower on, wait for it to warm up etc...." and then you realise it's far easier just to roll over and go to sleep.

I have got to the point where i would like a good roast dinner.

Anyway i thought snap crackle and pop was breakfast cereal, now it the sound my body make when i get up in the morning.

To be honest when it does happen, with 4 kids, it's rather quick, clothed and awkward.

Still her in doors is always grateful.
Do you find it has to be planned as well? Like "shall we have sex tonight?", followed by an itinerary of how clothed you will be, how the bedroom door will be secured, what excuses you will make for the bed creaking late at night and which brand of drink you spilt on you at 1am that necessitated a shower at that time of night?

Totally, always planned. Normally Xmas or birthdays.

What winds me up most us when you get worked up for it, despite not really being arsed, and then she falls asleep.

I'm like, now what do I do.....

As much as Christmas and Birthdays? You lucky ***!

I know what you mean. The spontaneity has gone because you're too busy filling up water beakers, ensuring everyone has brushed their teeth, entering passwords that you can't remember off the top of your head into XBOX Live, and breaking up fights.

And then if the spontaneity is there, it's usually when the little sods are at school but the dishwasher needs to be loaded and the bins need to be taken out first.

But I'm led to believe, should that happen to you again, that there are websites for that sort of conundrum these days.

Are you sure your not living in my house?

Glad it's not just me suffering in silence.
