2014: General Discussion

Towers Street looks great for Christmas. Although much like Scarefest beyond that the decorations are rather lacking.

Given that they do not host a big Christmas event I think what they have is fine for a handful of guests.

It's as if people are expecting Disney standards of Christmas theming? Until a proper Christmas event is established that draws in a large number of guests, what they have at present is adequate...Ish.

Love how they themed it with frost and mist!! NO expense spared! :D

Looking at that though, what a stunning view seriously, makes me even more angry the second you turn the corner you know you're going to bombarded by fast track and VIP advertising posters everywhere.

I don't think AT is as bad for advertising FastTrack compared to Thorpe. Most of the adverts on Towers Street are for CBeebies Land or Annual Passes. It's the overselling of the Coke refills that feels OTT. As well as the stupid PicSolve photographers., if they were at the bottom of Towers Street you could have a really nice picture with the Towers behind you (similar to the Disney Castle), instead they stop you on the ramp down from the turnstiles and you get a dodgy picture with the crowds and toilets in the background!

Alton Towers have scaled back Fastrack adverts over the past year. They're more obsessed with VIP now...

Although if you have to pay more for VIP then it kind of defeats the point... I mean, every guest is VIP...or should be!

Noticed today that all of Towers Street's speakers have finally been replaced, the new ones are much better, far louder and can be heard clearly across the street! Also the two posts at the top of street have extra speakers pointed towards the entrance plaza so theres additional volume there too!

Here's me hoping elsewhere in the resort has had speakers replaced too!

That's pretty exciting! (Sound geek here)

Any ideas of what they've been replaced with, or is it the same model?
Either way, the fact that we've actually got audible music in the plaza makes me really happy! Does anyone know what year the Bose towers were installed on TS? I know we lost the bottom two stacks for a while but were eventually reinstated.

Now they just need something decent to play through them. Wasn't there rumours about an IMAscore commission for Towers Street, with properly recorded orchestration?

There's no need. The current music would be fine if it was live recorded by a decent orchestra, rather than constructed with 90's samples.

Bleh. The current music is uninspired, turgid and leaden, even if it was recorded properly. It's so plodding.

The existing music was conceived for the failed 2007 experiment where they wanted the same basic theme rolled out across the resort.

In the hall of the mountain king was removed and the same basic theme was heard on Towers Street, in Katanga, on Air, the Monorail and Splash Landings. Most of it didn't last.

Then the TS version ended up with the 2008 advert 'stay for days' ITHOTMK music being dropped in.

It is not necessarily a poor track wholesale but it belongs in another era of Alton Towers.

I see no issue with the current Towers Street theme. It sets the mood perfectly, and is in my opinion better than the original.

The vast majority of guests don't even consider it to be synthesised.
