American Adventure Park

My gosh you didn't half feel high and exposed in those normal flume boats lol.

If I recall as well there was some nice theme inside the mountain for the second drop, which I am sure was bigger than it looks there (drops from inside), and also I am sure it interacted with the RMT they had too?

Anyone else remember?

There was something wonderful about this park. It just had a feeling about it. I loved it.

We must have visited at least 5 times when I was younger! Highlights were the fabulous wild west horse show and the jet ski attraction tey had which was well worth the extra dosh. Such a shame it closed down. Didn't the Buffalo coaster get moved to Twinlakes?

Also, I can't remember where I was going, but there was a brown sign on the road which had a blanked out bit whoch I could just make out as The American Adventure. Love finding little things like that!

Yes, I believe the Buffalo did go to Twin Lakes. And the pirate ship too if I remember correctly. I think the pirate ship was in a reasonable condition, because it was refurbished shortly before the park closed.

Just realised how short the run off is from the log flume! That kid looks like he gets a bit of a jolt in that vid!

My uncle used to take me here as a kid all the time! I seem to remember going through some kind of caves with skeletons in them on Nightmare Niagra? And their Mine Train was like a bullet, I don't know what manufacturer it was but it would give Rita some serious competition!

Yeah I'm quite sure for it size it was small!

Actually I seem to remember preferring Tower's RMT and thinking it wasn't the quickest, but the recollection of the inside of the mountain seems familiar to me.

Manufacturer was Interlink. Yeah, I've never heard of it either until just now!

The Runaway Train’s listed on the WGH website and the Interlink website:
http://www.wghltd.co.uk/roller-coasters.php
http://www.interlink-lg.com/products-2.htm

Am I right in thinking the two companies are affiliated in some way?

Edit: Just had a skim through the American Adventure topic on Towers Times. From that it sounds like the Runaway Train was built by Big Country Motioneering. But BCM went bankrupt while building The Ultimate and were bought out by Interlink, which is presumably why they appear on the Interlink website.

Ah right, thanks for clearing that up. :)

I've always thought that American Adventure shot itself in the foot when they removed Nightmare Niagara and Missile because they decided they want to be a family theme park. It would be like Towers turning into one and removing Nemesis and Oblivion.

Agreed. If you want to turn into a family theme park, you don't remove attractions, you add more suitable for the target market.

Nightmare Niagara was the highest flume at the time and would still be this day I believe. (Might be wrong on that though)

When I went I remember the live gunfights and horse chases, they really put on a show.

Yeah when you talk about "Ents" at their pomp they absolutely blitzed Towers.

*wipes a tear* I lived five minutes from this park and saw it every day from my house!

Anyone who read the topic over on TowersTimes will know just how indepth I knew the park!

There's such a fantastic history to the park, with many twists and turns. I spoke with the park manger Roger Lloyd the year before the park closed to discuss the change to family market, and I couldn't quite grasp the reasoning even then.

It boils down to cost unfortunately... The Missile needed extensive work on it, and Nightmare Niagara was condemned (the trough was literally held together with polyfilla in places).

Towers and Drayton were investing in thrill, and Gullivers had the family market crowned - all of them within an hours drive.

The money that AA made was, I have on good authority, raked back into racecourses and not into the park itself.

I so hope this topic evolves :) I have a lot to share, not least hundreds of photos!
