2015: Tree Top Quest

I went for a walk today around a forestry commission site which has Go Ape there - it was £31 per adult, so Alton isnt too bad then! Seriously though, I was shocked at £31!!!

Go Ape adult courses are about twice the length of the one Alton Towers are building with approx 35 crossings and 5 zip wires compared to 19 elements at Alton Towers. Go Ape takes 2-3 hours to complete, ATs Treetop Quest says about 90mins.

So yes it might be £6 more, but it's a lot bigger. Although I still often feel Go Ape is expensive when a whole day at AT is £25 (with 2for1).

Oh, well never mind then. Can't have something free when they could charge for it at a Merlin park now, can we?

I know you really do like to be negative about pretty much everything, rather than just most things like me, but putting the good old #merlinbashing aside for one minute. There is a slight difference between a very small course within a theme park, to two courses (both about 4 times longer) as part of a resort complex...

... Do any of the Centerparcs offer their activities for free?

Subtropical Swimming Paradise is the only free activity at Center Parcs.

The waterparks are free, and some of the smaller or seasonal activities are free at CenterParcs.

The prices range depending on the activity. I can't recall the exact price, but I think Woburn's zip wire and climbing activity was around £18? (Didn't do it however)

I wouldn't know, I've never been to a Centerparcs.

... They don't have and credits. ;)

Some people post a couple of negative comments on things Merlin do. Some people post 95% negative comments on things Merlin do. But only one person posts a negative comment about literally everything that Merlin ever do in any of their parks, regardless of whether it's reasonable (cuts to operating budgets) or ridiculous (criticising them for charging entry to a new attraction rather than, err, giving it away for free as a charitable endeavour).

It's unbelievably tedious. Why don't you just code a bot to automatically post a negative comment in every Merlin topic and save yourself the time?

It's also unbelievably tedious that
a) as a reader we have to go round in circles reading these petty arguments between you two
b) as a team member have to wade in yet again to stop this topic descending into yet another petty argument between you two.

If you want to argue, do it privately, now back on topic please.

If Tree Top Quest was free of charge, Diogo, I presume you would be willing to stand in line for the hours that the queue would no doubt be?

As if this would be free when it's practically the same size as something like Go Ape where they charge £30+ for an experience...

Madness. Have some rationale.

Go Ape is a longer course for adults which justifies Go Apes higher prices for adults too. But I think for what it is they will do well at AT, the price seems about right for the capacity and hotel guests get a discount anyway.

Hopefully it will be more popular and therefore better run than Extraordinary Golf.

Nobody expects the Tree Tops Quest to be a free activity. That is silly. Even in a strange parallel universe where Merlin operate such an attraction without seeking to make a profit they would still have operating costs to cover and building costs to re-coup.

However they MUST start offering packages where hotel guests can do the increasing number of resort activities at a price they can afford AND at times they want to do the activities! If you are forking out £500 or whatever to stay at the on-site hotels or the lodges you expect to get exclusive privileges that the park day visitors (plebs) don't get! That means offering bolt on packages with clear value savings when booking rooms and money off coupons when you arrive for activities, hotel restaurants and for the theme park (you know, like back in the day).

I found as a hotel guest it was infuriating that you could not spend a day in the theme park (like you have paid for) and then come back and spend the evening in the water park...in JUNE. Instead you have to cut your park day short to do the water park and then pay the £15 extortion to go in only to find it's rammed with non-hotel guests and the outdoor slides are closed.

Merlin...start giving your paying guests what they want instead of making them feel like they need to book a weeks stay at the resort to do two days worth of activities. It will just p*ss people off and they will spend there money elsewhere next time. You can almost guarantee the tree tops will be closed by 5pm every month of the year except August if you're lucky.

I agree their should be discounted bolt on options at the point of sale and at the point of check in.

For example;

Room price £250.00

Then offer discounted admission for 4 as follows:
Bolt on Tree Top x4 £100.00
Bolt on Water Park 4 £60.00
Bolt on Theme Park x4 £120.00
Bolt on Golf x4 £20.00

Let the cash savings roll in!

:p
