as for newspapers. I am waiting for a photo of a AA or RAC van in the car park next to a car with the headline of "DANGEROUS ALTON TOWERS FAILURES NOW INFECTING VISITORS CARS"

Not sure if this has been posted, apologies if it has, but Daniel Thorpe, one of the riders on the front row, has released a statement from hospital thanking everyone for their support.

Full article.

Sad isnt it what the UK and its general public and press have become. Just like the USA, the land of press sensationalism, who can get the best story, lets make a drama out of nothing, you sue me I sue you, compensation for anything and everything culture. I hate it.

Maybe we should arrange a day at Towers, get every coaster fan site together to visit, advertise it, get as many thousands of people to visit just to show how confident we are in the park, and how fed up we are with the press bashing of the place.

I hope the papers dont read my opening day trip report, It got a bit about an Iphone becoming a loose object on Air and hitting the top of the maint shed.

This whole media thing... It was bad enough with all the not quite true Smiler reports, but this? Really? This sort of thing is just like one easily fixable machine going down for 20 minutes in a factory which had a major incident a week or two previously. Completely irrelevant.

And the worst thing is that the GP are going along with these stories and believing them word for word. I was out last night and a couple of people seemed completely horrified and shocked that a couple of rides had "broken down" and "evacuated", which is just normal theme park operations.

I was on about CVs yesterday - in my 'about me' I always mention that I like going to theme parks - and I told my friend I particularly loved going to Alton Towers. She said, "Well maybe not any more!" So I told her all about this forum and how things in the news had been dramatised lol... My husband has also had to listen to it ("____ on the forum said ____ so that article you've read is nonsense") so he keeps saying I'm a spokesperson for AT lol :(

The general public thesedays are so engrossed with their online news allbeit whether on tablet, smartphone, computer etc that we dont lift our heads up and look around us at what is actually going on. I will put my hand up and admit I have been guilty of this in the past, but the past two years in particular i've really started noticing how much crap there is in the news!

well the park is quite busy, everyone having a good time. It would be hard to believe anything had happened apart from closed rides to remind you.
IMO Regarding visitor numbers and park reputation. I cant see it being an issue.

Been on air. She is running brilliantly. However a craft just went past an a condom (in wrapper) fell to the ground. Do you think I should hand it to a ride host and alert the papers :D

The Metro are dragging out yesterday's press stories by reporting them again.

Don't think there's much else in the media today though.

Yeah the media have been much quieter so far today, the only news is one of the girls getting a tweet from OIly Murs. Sounds like she is still fighting to save her leg after two operations.

:)
